Boppy in Hospital Bag?

Hi ladies,

Do you recommend bringing the boppy pillow in your hospital bag? Im thinking it may be useful come breastfeeding time.  If not, did they provide you with something or did you just use pillows? I'm taking 2 of my own pillows with me for comfort.

Thanks!

  • bring it! I loved having mine there while learning to breastfeed. When LO is so little it helps having the support under your arms so your arms don't tire out trying to keep LO up high enough. Regular pillows are not the same. I also brought 2 pillows from home, one for me and one for DH.

  • I brought mine but didn't use it much because our rooms were equipped with a Breast Friend. I used it a TON in the first couple weeks when I came home though. Now we're using it for tummy time :)

  • bring it! but i'd advise leaving it in the car until after you have LO. i used the regular pillows at first but it was too flat and uncomfortable for both of us. made DH get the boppy at home and was soo glad i did!

  • I brought mine, but we never ended up removing it from the car. I guess I am in the minority. I say go for it. I did use it for BF when I first came home from the hospital, but quickly learned to go without. I found it inconvenient to depend on it. I know a lot of people that go months of BFing with the Boppy every time. Might as well have it with you when you learn how.

We left ours in the car, too. But I use it now and I'm FF

  • I would absolutely bring it! I used mine for almost every feeding, which was especially helpful as I had a c/s. I still use mine at almost every feeding, unless I'm out and I manage without it. Its definitely my most-used baby item!

  • I took mine, but because I had a c-section I just used pillows so that the boppy didn't bother my incision.
  • I have a My Brest Friend, but didn't bring it. dh went home the next morning to shower &i had him bring it. The hospital had a MBF, but I wanted to use mine. I agree with just leaning it in the car. If you forget it, someone can always get it for you later.

I didn't really use it for breastfeeding at the hospital, but I did use it to prop myself up on the bed and to sit on if I sat on a regular chair.

This. I BF and FF now (just BF at night), but I have never used a pillow while BF. But it definitely came in handy to sit on.

  • I didn't bring mine to the hospital, they gave me a whole bunch of pillows so it worked out okay for me. I kind of wish I'd had it, I've used it like crazy since I got home.

  • No.  I'm a light packer, I just used pillows and had no problems.

  • Definitely bring it!  I found it so much more comfy and the lactation consultants can help you use it to try different latches that you can use when you are home.

  • Bring it for sure! Makes breast feeding and even bottle feeding so much easier and if you are anything like me you will feel weak after delivery so the extra support will be needed. Plus before LO came it was an extra pillow for me to use.

  • Bring it! It also came in handy on the drive to the hospital, I sat on it in the car and that made me a little more comfortable during contractions.

  • I was very happy that I brought mine--LO has a very heavy head and it was helpful, especially when I was so tired
