December 2011 Moms

Anyone else excited to hibernate?

I know I'm probably overthinking it, but I'm honestly planning and preparing to go into hibernation mode once LO gets here. It just sounds so wonderful and cozy to hole up at home for weeks by the (real!) Christmas tree with my snuggly new baby and DH and just focus on us (and survival! Haha), not have anywhere to go if we don't feel like it... ahhh.

I'm planning to have lots of meals and food stocked in the freezer, canned soups on hand, stock up on the usual household items we might run out of like tp, paper towels, disposable plates and utensils to help cut down on dishes if we want, stock up on all the baby stuff we'll need, especially diapers (we'll be doing mostly cloth).

I'm also planning on hiring a cleaning service to come in soon to do the deep clean that never got done since we moved into this place in July Embarrassed, it will be wonderful to have a thoroughly clean home and only have to worry about maintaining as needed.

The car will be fully maintained and tuned, tires/chains checked, car seat installed of course... hmmm what else? Ha, sounds a bit like preparing for a baby-pocolypse! Exciting!

Any BTDT mom's have any insight on preparing for the survival period? Things you learned or weren't prepared for, things you wish someone had told you?

Hehe, I like that! I'm definitely looking forward to some time just hibernating with family around the holidays! Fake tree for me, though, I'm allergic to the real ones! :(

  • We are going to have my parents here for the first week after baby comes, same as with DD. I actually loved it because my mom cooked and cleaned up and they are very good about not interfering too much. Plus this time around they can do stuff with DD so she will be getting lots of needed attention! Hibernating with LO sounds awesome if you can do it... personally I was going stir crazy from not leaving the house for a week, etc and was coming up with excuses to go to BRU or Target or where ever just to get out of the house. (I had DD in april so the weather was getting nice, not getting cold... which will make a difference I am sure).

  • I'll admit that I'm secretly counting down the days until I can go into hibernation mode. We have horrible winters that I don't like to go out in anyways, and this year I'll have a newborn as an excuse for not leaving the house.

  • I was kind of dreading not being able to leave my house because I'm afraid I'll get antsy but the way you put it makes me think it won't be so bad after all!

We were planning to make a big Costco run for things like diapers, detergent, paper towels, plates and things like that so we are set for a while as well :)

  • I wish I could hibernate!  After two days of sitting inside, I am ready to get out of my house.  Maybe if I had a fireplace or something like that to sit by, I'd rather stay in.  Can you tell my dream home has a fireplace? Wink  I do know DH is looking forward to having six days off of work.

I would LOVE to have someone come in and clean for me before this baby is born so all I have to do is maintain, and I'm trying to figure out if we can work that into our budget.

One thing I can say is to have plenty of onesies!!!  Those things get peed and pooped on so much!

    Enjoy your hibernation!

  • I know some people aren't this way, but both DH and I are major home bodies. Most of the time we have to be really motivated and bored to go do stuff out of the house, so I know with a brand new baby we will be so happy and content to stay put for a while with nowhere we HAVE to go if we don't want to. Plus, in my area, there really isn't anything to go "do" other than the basics like shopping and the movies. I will be taking 3 months off and DH will probably take about a month. Oooo, bonus, less winter driving and ice scraping!

I also thought of having things to keep us entertained if boredom ever becomes an issue (which I don't anticipate)... movies, up our cable from Basic, puzzles, board games, etc. It was tradition when I was growing up to always have a puzzle going on the dining room table during the winters, love them.

Oh, and gotta put tea and cocoa on the list to stock up on. Mmmm. OMG and eggnog!!

Is it December yet?? Sounds like the best holiday vacation ever Smile
