Hi ladies! I'm trying to gather information for the preemie resource blog that Urban, KCK and I are going to put together. Can you take a minute and answer the following questions:
1. What gestation did you deliver LO at?
2. Why you delivered early?
3. Length of NICU stay
4. Any long term illness, condition, etc your LO has as a result of premature birth
TIA!

2. Why you delivered early? I went into labor at 24 weeks and they were able to stop it with procardia and hospital bed rest. I had a fibroid that was really tiny at 20 week ultrasound (first time we saw it and nobody was alarmed) but somehow got huge in the next 4 weeks growing off the pregnancy hormones and cause me to go into labor and thinned my cervix out (incompetent cervix).

-Michael (Mack): 19 days. He was born with very immature lungs (I had GD and we live at altitude in CO) and a PDA. He went on cpap for a day after birth and he was not getting better. Next was the vent for 2 days, 2 doses of surfactant, no progress. They found his PDA with an echo and after 2 doses of indomethacin he was off the vent and on a low flow canula (which he brought home and kept until he was 7 weeks old) and was a feeder/grower after the PDA closed with indomethacin.
-Annabel (Annie): 12 days. Immature lungs, cpap for 2 days, then to a low flow for a day, then to room air, then feeder grower.
They came home 15 and 8 days before their due date.
4. Any long term illness, condition, etc your LO has as a result of premature birth.
-None that we've seen so far. They were barely pre-term, but they had the breathing issues of a younger pre-term infant. They seem to be on track for their actual age.

My Blog
I'm usually just a lurker here, but I'll add my info in case it's helpful:
1. What gestation did you deliver LO at?
35w1d
2. Why you delivered early?
No fetal movement (massive fetomaternal hemorrhage). Placenta/cord okay but he lost 10 oz of blood inside me. I had been treated with a TAC for a previous loss due to IC. Emergency c/s. C-pap, Vented for 2 days, low flow for 14 days. Blood transfusions, severe respiratory distress. At 5 weeks, he was treated for GBS a couple weeks after he left NICU, in a children's hospital. (Spinal tap, sepsis workup, PICC line). <GBS should have been caught in NICU but the broad spectrum antibiotics masked it>
3. Length of NICU stay
17 days+11 days children's hospital = 29 days total.
4. Any long term illness, condition, etc your LO has as a result of premature birth
None so far other than reflux. He seems to be right on target with his gestational age.

4. Son still has PDA (still open but very small)
1. What gestation did you deliver LO at? 24w 4d
2. Why you delivered early? Twin A's water broke, both delivered by C-section
3. Length of NICU stay - Twin A survived for 8 days. Twin B spent 138 days in the NICU before coming home.
4. Any long term illness, condition, etc your LO has as a result of premature birth - she has reflux and BPD/Chronic Lung Disease. Otherwise perfect.
