2nd Trimester

Fibroid. Anyone else?

Found out at our a/s last week that I have one. It's really low and by the birth canal and will most likely compromise a vaginal birth :(

Just wondering if anyone else out there is in the a similar boat.

Re: Fibroid. Anyone else?

  • I have 3. The one closest to my cervix grew with my first pregnancy, I had a planned c-section at 36w3d.  I did not have any other problems while pregnant, I was referred to a high risk ob and am seeing them same Dr. again this pregnancy. I also had a total of 9 u/s to monitor the baby and the growth of the fibriod.

  • Wow! That is a lot of u/s! I'm glad it didn't result in any negative affects. Do you know if fibroids typically result in being considered high risk?

  • I have at least four of them, and my OB told me that I can try for a regular birth, but to be prepared for a C-section in case they get in the way.  Good luck with yours; I've read plenty of stories online of ladies who have had successful pregnancies even with massive fibroids.

A TMI sidenote in case you care to read further: I went to the doctor today after having excruciating pelvic pain this weekend; I was convinced one of the fibroids was necrosing and bad things were happening to me and the LO.  The probable diagnosis was an overly full bladder that I was having a hard time emptying because of one of the fibroids getting in the way.  Yippee.  They inserted a catheter at the office and proceeded to empty it for me (that was an unusual experience, nasty).  Now I'm forcing myself to pee every two hours, even if I don't feel the "urge."  BTW, we heard the baby's heartbeat w/the doppler at the office, so LO seems to be faring well despite mom's ridiculousness!

  • I have three as well, and two of them are right below one of the babies on the right side of my groin pushing right into the ligament there. So in addition to normal RLP, I get the added pain from the babies pushing the fibroids onto the ligament. I'm really worried abut what will happen as the babies get bigger. I read up a little on them and it says that it can compromise a vaginal birth and that thy could cause premature birth if they cause space issues in your uterus and compromise the baby's growth. I would imagine that with one baby and one fibroid you wouldn't have a big chance of that happening.

  • I have one. No complications except it was blocking the view of the private parts when we tried to see them at 16 weeks! We try again on Monday and it better not block the view! But it is half as big as the baby...
  • I had a very large one with my last pregnancy and assume it is still there..They didn't want to remove it during my c-section due to fear of blood loss.  I ended up with a c-section, but can't say it was from the fibroid.  I never dilated during my induction.  I have a level 2 ultrasound tomorrow for this pregnancy, so I'm going to ask about the fibroid and the location of it.

  • SEPT!!! I somehow completely missed that you are pregnant. A huge belated congrats to you! Sorry to hear about your fibroid- I'll think good thoughts that it has minimal impact. And hope everything else is going well for you too!
