TTC After a Loss

What objects do you believe in?

This past weekend while I was at a vintage sale I found an old St. Gerard's medal (a little silver charm depicting a Catholic saint.) The charm was in a little envelope with some others on an old safety pin. The pack of charms was $3. I just liked them and felt like maybe I should get them. So I bought it.

When I got home I looked up who St. Gerard was and found out that he is the patron saint of motherhood, specifically of expectant mothers. I was wary and surprised.

I grew up Catholic but I am not a religious person as an adult. I am also not a superstitious person. Still, I found this charm for me to be an indication of hope and something to hang on to.

Do you have any objects, talismans or charms that you believe in for TTCAL?

Are they religious, or otherwise (i.e. four-leafed clovers)?

Do they have a story behind them that is meaningful or personal to you?

Please share!

  • I'm not really a religious person, but someone very thoughtful (and unexpected) gave us a Jizo statue that MH and I both really like a lot. We keep it in our room as a quiet reminder to take good care of our health and each other during this sometimes difficult journey to have a family.

Jizo is a Japanese Buddhist figure thought to look after expectant mothers, children and children who were lost too soon. There is also a Jizo picture in my signature. I figure, I need him in as many places and I can get.

That's great! I love the pic in your siggy of him (it? her?) - anyways it looks very peaceful and friendly. I think you're right that you need him in as many places as you can.

    Thanks for sharing.
