So I borke downa nd took Ky to the ER on Saturday night. She was clearly miserable: coughing, runny nose, ear pulling, crying, inconsiolible....I knew it was going to be a long wait but first they put us in this tiny waiting room for an hour (while the large waiting room was empty...) with three other families. Then we get a room and wait another hour to even see a doctor...I was beginning to think they had forgot us.
The lady we saw was crazy. She spoke faster than me (which is a feat since my previous position was a call center) and kept telling me to hold her head and pat, pat, pat...without even telling me what I was patting or anything. I finally figured out she meant instead of wiping her nose I should pat. She then asked me if she had been preemie and I told her know she was born like 4 days before my due date. SHe then shrugs and goes "Oh well she has a preemie head." and never went any further with that line of questioning. (Preemie mommas what does the even possibly mean???) She then proceeded with some explanation of what was wrong with her (sinus infection and double ear infection with a possible virus) and told me to be sure I didn't "take her to church tomorrow." REALLY??! Do you even know how offensive of a statement that can be?? She told me we were gettign antibiotics, motrin, and saline and it is a good thing I knew what she wanted me to do with the saline because NO ONE explained it to me. She had to come back in to llok at her rash on her legs and declared it dry skin. Really dry skin that severe appeared OVERNIGHT??
So yeah Saturday night sucked and last night was not much better as Ky was up for two hours in the middle of the night just wanting to be held/rocked....
Re: ER Visit
Blogs: Our Growing Family - CT Working Moms

I'm sorry to hear you had the ER visit from he!!. I hope that Ky is doing better and that you'll get to follow up with her regular doc this week.
I am so sorry. Is there a pediatric ER in your area or a hospital that has a separate pediatric ER? We are lucky to have a pediatric ER in our local hospitals regular ER so we wait in a different queu than the adult patients and have gotten in and out pretty fast (although when you come in with a kid in respiratory distress and say 30 weeker and chronic lung disease people seem to move faster.)
As for the preemie head comment. Holy offensive. Some preemies have a common head shape due to the fact that they are not held very much and are laying down all the time. This is particularly true of micro preemies. Although our nicu was very diligent about turning the babies so they did not develop this (E even had a cute little pad that looked like a breast implant for under her head). Anyway some people call preemies toaster heads for this reason. It is totally disrespectful and hurtful. Oh and Ky doesn't look like this so she was full of crap anyway.
OMG .. so sorry .. NIGHTMARE... and I would call and complain ...
Really with the preemie head thing I would be PISSED and I have preemies.. and have not heard of this.. THANKS FOR CLARIFYING SSG ....
and the church comment ----- wow so presumptuous or was it a DOG because she knew you were gay - like when people tell me they will pray for me ... UGGGG..I am not a religious person... and I happen to be Jewish and Gay so I always think people are throwing digs for the GAY thing.. but i say no need to pray for me .. I'm a chosen one ! hahaha
Still sorry you had to deal with that MORON !!!!!
Hope Ky is feeling better ...

I am sorry to say this WAS the local children's hospital....We have been there twice before and had wondrful experiences. This was just out of sync with anything else we have experienced.
I figured you would be able to shed some light on the head comment. I was not very offended because I did not know what it meant, more taken aback that she would say something so random that clearly had nothing to do with her condition. But now that I know what it means, wow that is pretty harsh....
I do not think it was the gay thing. No one ever thinks I am gay...like ever when it is just me by myself. So yeah I just think the lady was just one of those no filter people, like has no idea what is and is not appropriate to say to people.
