WDM OBGYN Associates in West Des Moines, IA

I just wanted to reach out to some soon to be mom's who are currently getting care at this location. I started out with one doctor and soon discovered that I would be rotated amongst nearly six doctors throughout the course of my prenatal visits. I am finding that either I have high expectations as a mom to be or that place is just in "too much of a hurry" when they see their patients...Does anyone else have some feedback or enlightenment about this place and any recommendations about how to approach a conversation about a birth plan? I would hate to change OB's but I would rather do it now, rather than later...

I don't go to this OBGYN because I live in Ames, however, you should never feel as though you are expecting too much!! You deserve to have a good experience and there are places you can get that!! I go to McFarland OBGYNs in Ames and they have always been good and never made me feel like they are in a hurry and I always felt comfortable talking to them about anything!! No matter where you go, you deserve to feel like you and your baby/family are important! A good doctor can make all the difference in the world!! Good luck!!

WDM OBGYN is where I go for my prenatal care and I am not that impressed with them.  I do feel rushed and when I was there the last time they forgot about me and I ended up waiting 40 minutes to be seen for only 10 minutes.  I have been looking for a midwife here in Des Moines, but haven't had a lot of luck.  For right now I am going to stay with them, but I hope to find something before I'm 20 weeks pregnant so I have time to get comfortable with the doctor or midwife.  Keep me posted if you happen to find a better provider.  Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I also go to WDM OBGYN and have had pretty good experiences so far (except for the one crabby lady who answers the phone-what's her problem?). I don't know if this helps you, but I actually LIKE the fact that they rotate doctors since you don't know who will be on call when you go into labor. This way, you've had experience with all of them beforehand. I haven't felt rushed yet, and the doctor's I've seen so far (Roose & Makkapati) have been good about asking if I have questions. I was just thinking that if you haven't seen them yet, you may like them? By all means, if you don't feel comfortable then you SHOULD look for someone else. It's your health & your baby's and your little peanut is depending on you to speak up, so do it if you need to. Don't feel badly! :)

I go to Women's Health Specialists Ob gyn and associates at the downtown (laurel street location) i know they have an office in west des moines but do not know if it is the same place you are speaking of.

Anyway, this office has 7 Drs and you have the option of rotating through them when you make your appointments or just stick to one certain doctor. It is advised to rotate through the doctors because you never know who will be on call on the day of delivery.

I have had really good experience with this group of Doctors. I have only felt rushed once, and other than that they sit down with me and ask if i have any questions.

I went to this group because it is close to my work, they deliver at Mercy and several people I work with used them and like the office.

I have been a patient at WDSM OB/GYN for years, and have always had wonderful care!  They rotate you through all the providers, so that you will have at least met the provider who will be on call when you deliver.  It is actually to provide you with better care.

For my annual visits, I have always been treated by one provider, but OB appointments are different.  As far as the birth plan, I would just bring it up during a visit.

    Hope this helps!

I have always had wonderful care at WDM OB/GYN. If you are wanting OB care for your pregnancy, you are going to have to see several different providers during your prenatal care. I don't know of any OB's that have their own practice in the Des Moines area.

If you are looking for a more one-to-one ratio of care, I suggest looking for a midwife

From the research I have done there are no OB's that have their own practice in the Des Moines area. I went to the ob/gyn on laurel st. for my first baby and went through being rotated with them. I had a good experience never felt rushed and the desk ladies were very kind but I wanted a more personal experience for my next time.

I didn't do any research for midwives since I was high risk last time and I'm too afraid that I will be again not to have an actual doctor. It also ended up being extreamly convient being next door to Mercy.

I have a couple of friends of mine who go to this group of doctors and they both have had good luck with them. The group that I went to is Women's Health Services in WDM. I had very good luck with them and was very impressed at how they handled my last difficult two weeks of being pregnant and then my difficult delivery. It really is best to rotate through all of the doctors so that you know who they are and they are familiar with you. As far as rushing you through appointments, you may have to speak up. I think any doctor can forget to slow down and listen to their patients. Good Luck!

I will NOT use them for my second baby.  Funny thing is I thought I had seen all the Dr.'s but the Dr. who delivered my son was the only person I had not been to.  Bottom line is- I want to have someone get to know me and my name!  If they can't deliver my baby, fine.  Personalized care over the course of my pregnancy means more to me than who delivers my baby b/c that is such a blur anyway.

I'm planning on going to the downtown OBGYN Associates on Laurel. I am curious as to what your first appointments were like? Just a checkup, or do I get to hear the heartbeat? I will be 9 weeks when I go for the first time? Still trying to figure out if my husband should come or not! Thanks!

I started off going to OBGYN and associates at the Ankeny and downtown locations. The nurses were rude, Dr. Brown was inattentive and acted as though all my questions were stupid (first baby). I switched at 16 weeks to the Midwives at Iowa Methodist. BEST THING I EVER DID. These midwives are backed by Iowa Methodist Hospital so if for some reason you become high risk they transfer you to their "sister" OB-GYN clinic. They do not do home births, but I had a successful med-free hospital birth.
