I just wanted to reach out to some soon to be mom's who are currently getting care at this location. I started out with one doctor and soon discovered that I would be rotated amongst nearly six doctors throughout the course of my prenatal visits. I am finding that either I have high expectations as a mom to be or that place is just in "too much of a hurry" when they see their patients...Does anyone else have some feedback or enlightenment about this place and any recommendations about how to approach a conversation about a birth plan? I would hate to change OB's but I would rather do it now, rather than later...
Re: WDM OBGYN Associates in West Des Moines, IA
WDM OBGYN is where I go for my prenatal care and I am not that impressed with them. I do feel rushed and when I was there the last time they forgot about me and I ended up waiting 40 minutes to be seen for only 10 minutes. I have been looking for a midwife here in Des Moines, but haven't had a lot of luck. For right now I am going to stay with them, but I hope to find something before I'm 20 weeks pregnant so I have time to get comfortable with the doctor or midwife. Keep me posted if you happen to find a better provider. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I go to Women's Health Specialists Ob gyn and associates at the downtown (laurel street location) i know they have an office in west des moines but do not know if it is the same place you are speaking of.
Anyway, this office has 7 Drs and you have the option of rotating through them when you make your appointments or just stick to one certain doctor. It is advised to rotate through the doctors because you never know who will be on call on the day of delivery.
I have had really good experience with this group of Doctors. I have only felt rushed once, and other than that they sit down with me and ask if i have any questions.
I went to this group because it is close to my work, they deliver at Mercy and several people I work with used them and like the office.
I have been a patient at WDSM OB/GYN for years, and have always had wonderful care! They rotate you through all the providers, so that you will have at least met the provider who will be on call when you deliver. It is actually to provide you with better care.
For my annual visits, I have always been treated by one provider, but OB appointments are different. As far as the birth plan, I would just bring it up during a visit.
Hope this helps!
I have always had wonderful care at WDM OB/GYN. If you are wanting OB care for your pregnancy, you are going to have to see several different providers during your prenatal care. I don't know of any OB's that have their own practice in the Des Moines area.
If you are looking for a more one-to-one ratio of care, I suggest looking for a midwife
From the research I have done there are no OB's that have their own practice in the Des Moines area. I went to the ob/gyn on laurel st. for my first baby and went through being rotated with them. I had a good experience never felt rushed and the desk ladies were very kind but I wanted a more personal experience for my next time.
I didn't do any research for midwives since I was high risk last time and I'm too afraid that I will be again not to have an actual doctor. It also ended up being extreamly convient being next door to Mercy.
This. I love WHS and the care I get there.
