Who are you?

NO FLMAING!

This is just a little post to write a little something about yourself, your family, what you plan to do with the new baby, whatever you want to write about you.  Maybe you'll find someone who's rather similar to you that you never thought would be, maybe you'll find out that thing you do or plan on doing that you didn't want to talk about out of fear of being "bashed" or "flamed" isn't as weird or you're not totally alone as you thought... so.... who are you?

Re: Who are you?

  • I like this idea for a thread :)

I am 27 years old and DH is 29. We live in Brooklyn Heights, NY in a one bedroom rental apt with 2 small dogs and we're currently in the process of looking for a two bedroom in the same area. I have PCOS and it took us about 8 months to get pregnant with the help of a RE and fertility meds and we feel blessed that it happened as quickly as it did considering the circumstances.

I quit my very stressful, very demanding job about 6 months ago to focus on the IF treatments so I'm now unemployed and I confess- I'm loving it! I also plan to SAH after the baby comes.

We are the first of our friends and siblings to have a baby, so it will definitely be life changing! My flame free confession is that my SIL is very competitive and just got married in July and wants a baby right now, and it makes me happy that I beat her to it :). I hope this baby sticks!

Alot of our friends and family already own houses and will probably think we're a little crazy for having a baby and continuing to rent, but we love the area of NYC we live in and we're just not ready to leave yet (and to buy around here is insanely expensive). I'm looking forward to enjoying city life with a baby and hopefully meeting lots of other couples in similar situations.

Right now, I am so incredibly worried about our baby since we're at high risk for m/c and I am desperately hoping out next u/s on Tuesday with our RE goes well. If you have any extra prayers to give, I'll take one!

  • My name is Lisa. I am 25 and married to an awesome guy, Chris. He is 32 and we met each other 5 years ago when we were both working at Lowe's. We have been married almost 3 years and before we had a baby girl we had, and still have, two beautiful fur babies Izzy and Cassie. We have an almost ten month old girl named Hazel. This baby was a surprise to say the least. We are hoping for a boy so we can be done with kids. We live in Texas in the town I've lived in the majority of my life. I love living in a small town, even though people can be gossipy b!tches.

Sadly, we are living with my mom because the economy hit us hard. I am in school finishing up my basics to become a high school English teacher and my husband is about to start school to get his HVAC technician license.

I love to read and watch movies, I think that is what drove me to want to be a teacher. I am a huge Green Bay Packers fan and I LOATHE the Dallas Cowboys, which makes me kind of an outcast in my area.

With this baby we are going to breastfeed again because I am too cheap to buy formula. I will probably pump more and build a better stash, unlike with DD. I thought I didn't need a stash since I was staying home with her. Now that I am pregnant my supply has dropped and I wish I wasn't having to buy formula.

ETA more of a description because I was on my phone.

i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • I'm Priscilla, I am 28yrs old married to my husband who's in the ARMY and in 6wks when I'm done with my externship (which I start tomorrow!) I'll be a certified veterinary assistant!  (I go back to school August next year to do Vet Tech!). We're from NY/NJ but are currently in CO and between then and now have lived in GA and TX.

I have 3 daughters and am pregnant with baby 4

    my daughters are 11, 9 and 6

DD1 was planned (yes planned),  DD2 was unplanned but welcomed, DD3 was planned but arrived "early" (had planned to TTC when DH got home from his first deployment, I got pregnant before he left, lol).

This is pregnancy 9, I've had 5 pregnancy losses, 6 counting losing DD1's twin.

    My losses were-Aug 98 @ 5wks, June 99 @ 5wks, Aug 02 @ 5wks, Dec 02 @ 10w 4d & May 11 @ 8w 6d.  DD1's twin was lost sometime between late Dec 99 and early Jan 2000.

    I formula feed

I use disposable diapers & wipes

     I forward face at 1

My kids have occasional sweets and soda

    we don't do organic

    We have 6 pets.....

2 dogs, a 3 yr old Miniature Bull Terrier (like the target dog) named Scarlett that we've had picked out since 6wks but had in our home since 10wks and a 7yr old UKC certified American Pit Bull Terrier named Sasha that we got at 4.5yrs old.

2 cats ages 2 that we've had since 6wks old and age 7.5 that we just adopted from the humane society in June

2 snakes- The Wizard is a corn snake we got around Aug 09 and Jake (the snake) is a ball python we just got in late March/early April.

    ummm.... I guess that's about it =0)

  • Hi!  I'm Tristi, I'm 30 and have been married for 6 years.  We currently live in Chicago and are expecting baby #2.  I have a beautiful daughter named Adelynn.

My life is a big ball of stress right now for various reasons.  I hate my job - it's the only thing I've ever wanted to do (I'm a teacher) but all of the joy has been sucked out of it the last few years.  I'd love to stay home but it just isn't an option.  We want to sell our house and move back to our hometown so we can raise our children close to our families, but we've lost about $75,000 in home value over the last few years, so unless we can come up with $60,000 cash, we're stuck here for who knows how long.  DD was born with a genetic condition called Turner Syndrome.  We spend a lot of time in and out of hospitals and specialist offices.  DH and I have to give her an injection of human growth hormones daily and I'm constantly worried about that.

Given all that, I am ecstatic about the pregnancy and am just trying to concentrate on my awesome family and just pushing the rest out of my mind as much as I can!  I love the holidays and can't wait to start decorating.  DD's bday is next month and I'm working frantically to get her party ready.  I love crafting and am thinking about starting a small hairbow business - once the exhaustion lets up!  And I'm so happy to be here with you wonderful ladies!

  • I'm a 27 year old mother of four (expecting #5 in April).  I have two sets of identical twin girls, they are 9 and 7 now.  I had my first set when I was a senior in high school, married my high school sweetheart (we were together since I was a sophmore but didn't marry until I was 21).  We had another set of twins when I was 19.   We divorced in 2005 and I have full custody of all four of my girls.  I met my current husband later that year, but we didnt get married until  this year (together for 6 years now).  He finacially supported me and my girls while I went to college and I am now an EFDA (expanded functions dental assistant).  i worked full time for four years, and recently gave up my job to go back to college to do dental hygiene.  We didn't plan for this baby, but life happens.  I am glad we are having a baby of our very own now BEFORE I started the hygiene program (3 year committment).  I have 3 classes to finish before I can apply for hygiene schools.

I started life with very little and now I have just about everything I could ever want.  I love my family and having a big family has been great for us!  I was a young mother but I have been a very good mother!  I encourage activities like soccer, orchestra, and ballet.  I make time for my kids and make sure they succeed in school.  I never thought that we would have another baby, but after having unprotected sex once on our wedding night it seems to be meant to be.  DH is very excited and he has been wonderful helping me raise a big family.  He has helped me reach my goals in life, and encourages me to have a career for when the girls leave the nest.  I have many years before my career is necessary (we are getting by fine with one income right now- thankfully), and I look forward to all the stages in life.

I'm use to getting the rude comments about the size of my family, but I just say it's not for everybody.  I love my family....never a dull moment!  The holidays are the best, christmas is soooo much fun!  My girls are sooo excited for a new baby!  Yes raising a big family is expensive and time consuming, but I think it has taught my kids the value of sharing, waiting (patience), and money.

Oh...and we also have a long haired mini doxie that is a red brindle.  He is the only other boy in the family besides hubby.  He currently is my 8lb baby:)

  • My name is Chelsey, I live in the northern Chicago suburbs, I'm 25 and this is my 2nd pregnancy.  My first pregnancy ended in March when we found that I had a blighted ovum.  I'm married to my high school sweetheart, we've been married for 2 and a half years, but together for almost 9.  He works, I don't, but I do volunteer for a childrens' educational theater which I mentor and participate in stage productions.  We have 2 adorable cats, Luna, and Scout.  We are living in our first home and we bought it a year ago in August.  My whole family lives in MD, so it's hard being away from them all, especially since a baby is coming into the picture.  Ours will the the first grandchild of the family, so it will be difficult being so far away from family.

I guess I'll go ahead and make a confession since I'm writing about myself...since losing our first pregnancy, I've been really reluctant to get attached to this one just yet...we've had multiple u/s and have seen the heartbeat, but I'm just hesitant and in constant fear that something will go wrong with this pregnancy, and I guess I'm just guarding myself in case something happens.  We haven't told very many people at all, even when we get into the 2nd trimester, I'm still very reluctant to tell people. :/

Anyways, nice to get to meet and get to know you all :)

  • I'm 25 and a SAHM.  My DH works for a credit card company in IT, but just got a new position in the Marketing department doing web design stuff.  It came with a raise, so we are pretty excited about that, given the huge income cut we just made.  I was a teacher for 3 years, but it just didn't become the passionate career I thought it would be for me.

This second baby is a surprise.  We weren't planning on TTC until DS was 2.  He's 9 months!

We live in the NW Chicago suburbs, but I wish we lived a little further south to be closer to my parents.  I wish we saw them more often, and I know my mom feels guilty because she sees my niece and nephew so much more often than she sees DS (she provides day care for them 4 days a week).

Christmas is my favorite holiday and I have already caught the bug!  I've been listening to Nat King Cole, brewing hazelnut coffee and I watched Love Actually yesterday!

  • My name is Leah and I am 25. I have been married for 3 years to a great man who is 29. I am a nanny and he is a teacher. This baby is a huge surprise for us since I was on the pill, but it is the best surprise ever. My husband is over the moon and is so excited.  I am excited but a little nervous as it is our first. We live in Fairfield County in a two bedroom apartment. I would like to stay even though it is a little small, but we are trying to save for a house. They are so expensive where we live.

This is the first grandchild for both sides. On top of having all our parents plus one step-mom, we also have 7 grandparents still. There is no doubt that this LO is going to loved and spoiled rotten.

My confession is similar to Ashley's. I am so glad that I am having the first grandchild before my SIL. I know it is horrible, but I find her to be a little self-involved at times.

DH and I plan on cloth diapering and I really hope that I can breast feed.

It is so fun to read all of these!

  • MH and I are both 27. We bought our 4 bedroom house last October and are really excited to finally use one of the empty rooms. This is our first pregnancy and it was planned; we actually were incredibly lucky and conceived the first cycle. I will continue to work because SAH does not sound appealing to me at all, but I am a teacher so I have lots of time off.

We have one dog. Her name is Zoey and we rescued her last year from a shelter. She is a pit bull and I get very defensive of her. I cannot stand people who are ignorant about her breed and dogs in general, but I do understand the stigma of the breed.

Once LO is here and school resumes in August for the 2012-2013 year, I will work in the day and MH will watch LO. Then, he will take evening classes and finish his degree in the evening while I watch LO. Yes, it isn't ideal, but it is what works for us.

We will try to be the best role models we can. Education will be of great importance in our house; health will also be valued. Our kids will know the difference between healthy vs. unhealthy foods and active vs. sedentary lives, but we will have to find a way to do this appropriately.

As first time parents, we will probably make mistakes along the way, but if everything goes according to plan, below is a list of things I plan on doing:

-breastfeeding and pumping for the first year

    -self soothing

    -disposable diapers

    - LO will sleep in his/her own room from night 1

    - LO will travel with us at a young age. We go to Maui about every 2 years and the baby will have to learn how to travel and adapt.

    - we will make our own baby food sans preservatives with our food processor

    - no pacifiers. PERIOD

    - we will do our best to get LO on a strict schedule

    - no juice or milk in bottles

  • My name is Lauren and I'm 32. I've been married to my wonderful husband for 5.5 years, but we've been together for almost 11 years. We live in Knoxville, TN and are both teachers (well, I'm a teacher's aide in special ed. because the economy sucks and I can't get a real job, but we're working on it) This is our 3rd pregnancy, but the other 2 didn't make it past 6 weeks, so I am also reluctant to get too excited about this one...though I'm starting to cave a bit. My first MC was due to low progesterone and I started Clomid after that. My second pregnancy was just 2 months later and was a missed MC. Went in for my 7 week u/s to see nothing. :(

It took us a while after that to get pregnant again, 6 months, but I have been with an RE who has helped a lot. I have low thyroid and PCOS, which I had known, so he watches that. Then we discovered I have 2 clotting issues, so now I'm on aspirin and daily Lovenox shots. They seem to be doing their job and I switch to my regular OB next week. Almost out of the first trimester and I AM starting to get a bit excited about this little peep!

  • My name is Jessica and I'm 29. My DH is 30. DH is my second husband (I got married when I was 20 and it was a BIG MISTAKE, we were officially divorced less than 4 years later). DH and I have been together almost four and half years and have been married almost four months. He was my high school crush since I was 13, he randomly found me on MySpace and sent me a message. If it had been up to DH, we would already have at least one LO, maybe two, but I wanted to wait until we were married and owned a house. We got our BFP on our third try. Our LO will be born around our 5 year dating anniversary and we are very excited to become parents. This will be the first grandchild on both sides.

We own a house in a fairly quiet suburban neighbourhood outside of Vancouver, BC Canada, and we have a mini zoo. Two dogs (a female red chihuahua named Luna and a black male mini-poodle/dachshund/pomeranian cross named Mohawk), two bunnies and two rats. Mohawk is my baby. He's almost two and still a puppy that loves to cuddle. DH works in construction and I'm a legal assistant. I HATE my job. I will not be going back after LO is born, but I don't know if I'll be a SAHM yet. DH and I love to go to concerts. We've been having issues with our friendships, we seem to have outgrown a lot of them because we aren't into partying every weekend, and we haven't caught up to the ones with kids yet.

  • I'm Cheryl and I'm 32 years old.  My DH is 28 (29 next month) and we've been married since November 2010.  We live in Ajax, which is just outside of Toronto, which is where we lived until we bought our house in January (houses in Toronto were way out of our price range).  We have 2 dogs; Sterling, a 10 year old Bischon-Maltese mix and Junebug, a 15 month old Boston Terrier.

This is our first pregnancy and we are super excited about it.  DH's parent's are very excited as this is their first grandchild.  My parents are excited too but this is their third grandchild so it doesn't have the same effect, unfortunately.

I'm planning on a home birth and hope this will be possible for us.

I'll also confess that I am very nervous about announcing my pregnancy in case something goes wrong.  I haven't miscarried before but I am a worrier by nature.  My husband and I just want this baby so much.

I'm really looking forward to being a mummy and decorating the nursery :)

I'm so glad to hear that someone else was a young mom!  I get so much negativity about it, but soooo glad they exist.  I wouldn't take it back for anything.  I had the energy to deal will four little ones under 3, so I am thankful for that!  Funny how the hubby does the pity party about being the only boy.  He desperately wants a boy and keeps calling the baby bump his stinky little man.  I just keep warning him not to be so set on a boy that it becomes a disappointment if its a girl.  I really don't care either way.  I just want a healthy baby!  If its a boy I will be soooo thrilled for DH, and if its a girl I know all about girls, so no surprises there!   Glad to meet everyone.

  • DH and I are both 29. We've been married for almost 2 years but have been together for 7 years. We've been ttc for a year and seven months and lost 4 babies early on. This is the farthest we've been and we are very excited.
We are both first time parents so I don't have it all planned out yet. I want to breast feed but that's as much as I know haha. I'll do more research as I get farther along. I plan on being a mom like,my mom was. She was amazing and I wanna give that to our baby. We have lots of friends and family with children who i can ask for advuce or when im worried.
We have 3 cats but plan to downsize. I just have to find good homes for one or two of them.
We are big Buckeye fans, but this season seems shot.
I am currently unemployed with no assistance and looking for a job so st can buy a house for this baby and get out of the small rental.
I love coming to the bump and talking to you all and learning things.

  • My husband and I are both 32 and originally from barbados but now live in TX. We have been married for 2.5 years and were TTC for just over a year.

I was having ovulation issues and this baby surprised us as I was on progesterone and about to be put back on BCP to regulate my cycle before moving on to clomid.

I've been pretty laid back about the pregnancy so far and have finally been coming through the worst of my m/s but I'm still very tired.

I love my job and I am the breadwinner since we are immigrants and our visa is dependent on my employment and DH is not allowed to work. We are about to go into major savings mode so that I can take 20 weeks maternity leave, 6 weeks of which will be unpaid.

I hope to return to work part time and between working three days a week and my husband's school schedule, we hope to keep our LO at home with us until he or she is almost a year old. However I have absilutely no desire to be a fulltime SAHM.

My FFC is that I don't know if I can take my mother coming for 4 whole weeks when the baby is  due. If she is here when the baby comes, I don't want her in the delivery room. This will cause some strife I know.

ETA: We plan to cloth diaper and breast feed. The baby will be in a bassinet in our room for the first few months before moving to the nursery.  We plan to take the baby home to Barbados at about 3 months to be christened with our families there.

I'm Laura, I'm 32. I have a dog named Sam (black lab, 2 years old, think Marley). My husband Jeff is hardworking sweet man but can be very type A and moody at times haha. I love to laugh and hang out with my family and friends. I love gardening. I dislike exercise (I'm thinner but I'm sure I could be in better shape). Compassionate, work as a cord blood collection specialist (donation only), love my job. Volunteer a lot for cancer-related causes (used to work in fundraising for the Jimmy Fund and also for the National Marrow Donor Program) and also used to volunteer at the local animal shelter.

Love any music from Pink Floyd to Britney. Love the Fall and cooking good comfort food (beef stew sounds amazing right now). Love watching Mad Men, Gossip Girl, and Pretty Little Liars hahaha Not big into sports, did dance as a child though. Love going out to dinner, trying new things <: Like decorating our house and absolutely love shopping (which has gotten me in some trouble!)

Did go through IVF to get pregnant because of my cancer history. Am so excited to be here, even though I definitely am scared a lot I try to keep it in the back of my mind and just let time pass. Will be having a c-section due to my history and also the fact it's twins <: Will try to breast feed and formula. I will not get mad though if I fail. Can't wait to see these two!

  • I'm 31, H will be 30 next month. We just celebrated our 5 year anniversary. We've known each other since 1999 and were friends for a long time and both had crushes on each other at various points before we started dating in Jan. 2005. This is our first kid and the first grandchild for both sets of parents. I'm a lawyer with the State of Florida. I really want to work in Food & Drug law, but, well, I live in Tallahassee. lol. My job is sooo boring, and that's why I'm here so much. We might move someday, but for now it's best for us to be living near family. Plus, I have no desire to take another bar exam, ever. H works in customer service and has a part-time warehouse job. He's hoping to find something else before the baby comes. If nothing else, he will quit the second job, and we'll make do.

We have 4 cats, one dog, and currently 1 foster cat through the local Humane Society. We are renting a house and have no plans to buy any time soon. I love wine and going out to eat, but not so much either right now! I also crochet as a hobby- mostly baby blankets. I'm not really a kid person and stopped babysitting when I decided the hassle wasn't worth the money, so I am really hoping the "it's different when it's your kid" thing is true! haha

What we plan to do with the baby... hmm. We'll probably get one of those co-sleeper bassinets for the first few months then move the baby to the nursery. I don't really plan to make my own baby food, but I might if it turns out to be cheaper. I don't think there's anything wrong with jarred food, though. We eat mostly organic/humane foods at home, so I would buy that type of baby food.  I plan to breastfeed at first, but probably not for an extended period of time. I'm taking 6-8 weeks of maternity leave, and I'll have to see how pumping goes when I'm back at work. I don't like the idea of pumping in my office AT ALL. But I know things change when you're actually there. As far as daycare, my mom will most likely watch the baby. RIP my 5 minute commute. lol. She lives about 20 minutes in the opposite direction of my office. We'll put him/her in preschool when they're older.

The thing I'm most worried about is sleep deprivation. I used to be a chronic insomniac, and it's pretty much the worst feeling ever. Also, expenses. I'm most excited about holidays, toys, snuggling with my baby, taking him/her places for the first time, and buying/dressing him or her up in cute outfits.

eta: oh also, we ttc for 7 cycles and had an early loss on the 4th cycle.

We haven't told anyone about this pregnancy except my sister and her husband. We aren't telling our parents until 13 weeks, after my NT scan. I feel like I'm the only one here who hasn't told her parents yet! It's not because of the previous loss- we didn't plan to tell with that one until after the first trimester either. It's just something I've always felt strongly about for myself. I don't want their sympathy/support if something goes wrong.

  • What a great idea for a thread.

I'm 29 and this is my first pregnancy.  My husband and I got married in March 2011 and were not planning on having a baby so soon.  It seems our condom failed us.  Unplanned but definitely not  unwanted was how I explained it to my doctor.  We are living apart this year for work reasons.  He had an opportunity come up suddenly that was too good to turn down and I had already committed to working for the next year at my school (I am a junior high teacher).  I have just started my Master's of Education and will finish it by 2013 (it is by distance).   Once the baby is born I will relocate to be with my husband for my maternity leave.

    I have two FFC.

    1)  I am really sad about not being able to finish the school year with my students.  I love teaching and it has become such a part of who I am that it is hard to imagine my life without it.

    2)  I think I am more afraid of breastfeeding complications than I am of Labour and Delivery.

ETA:  I forgot to tell you we have two rescued cats that are currently living with my husband.  They are spoiled rotten!

  • imageMDmama519:

We currently live in Pasadena, MD which is outside of Baltimore. I am a former Paralegal turned SAHM (I also sell Pampered Chef).

I have many times told DH that my dream job would be SAHM and a PC consultant! I love PC, and think I would be great at it! Haha.

I'm Lindsey, I'm 26 and DH is 27. We med my freshman year of college and have been together for nearly 8 years, married for 3. We've owned a home in a small town outside St. Louis for almost 4 years. We hope to raise our 1st baby in this house and move on to bigger and better things in 3-4 years (maybe when #2 is on the way).

We have 1 furbaby, a rescued JRT named Gappie. I am not anticipating the transition to a dog+baby household to be an easy one. She is by no means an 'easy' dog to take care of and has a long list of issues, one being she is skittish around small kids and babies. She is freaked out by crying and loud noises. She will most definitely attempt to eat lots of baby-related items if left unattended. I am committed to her and will do everything humanly possible to provide a peaceful home for her, plus our growing family. I am confident we can do it. DH and I have had many stressful arguments over this, and several family members don't support us keeping the dog with a baby in the house. Sigh.

    Other things...

We plan to do parenting our own way. We will graciously accept advice of others, but in the end, it's our decision. We'll research and make the best choices for our family. Period.

I plan to breastfeed and pump once I go back to work. Goal amount of time is 6 months, love to do it for longer if possible.

We want our child to be well-adapted to the life we live. Traveling a lot, sleeping in different places, etc. I know we're first time parents and have a lot to learn, but that's what we're hoping for!

  • Oooo I'll play.

My name is Laura and DH is Wes. We are 20 and 21. We met in high school started dating a few weeks later and by 2008 we were engaged. We had a long 2 year engagement and got married in May 2010.

We love animal so much. We had 2 dogs(4 year old chihuahua and a 3 year old australian shepard) and 1 cat(2 year old tabby who thinks he is a dog)

We currently live in a 1 bedroom apartment in South Charlotte, NC. We are in contract with a house, but it's going to be a long process because it is a short sale. So unfortunately we are going to be moving into my parents house at the end of next month when our lease is up.

DH and I both currently work at Target(different locations) but definitely don't intend to do that for the rest of our lives. DH has one more semester til he earns his degree in Web/Graphic Design. My dream is to be a SAHM but not sure how we would make that work financial wise. Guess we will see when DH settles into his desired career. I would also settle for working from home if possible.

My FFC is that I have no idea about how long or if my maternity is paid or not. I guess I will find out next week when I sit down with HR and spill the beans.

  • DH and I are both 32 and have been married for 7 years and Live in new England. We have an amazing almost 3 year old boy who is adorable and equally energetic. We both work full time and DS is in daycare 4 days a week, we all love his school as they focus on education. This baby took us 10 sad months to conceive and we ended up at the infertility program with my OB and were days from an RE appt. My problem was a very short luteal phase. My parenting style: I am cool with a paci as long as it is not abused and the child gives it up just after his/her 1st bday. We have a no physical punishment rule in my house, time outs have worked incredibly well, I would never hit a child as I believe it sends the wrong message. We believe in explaining everything to DS and because of that he is a smart boy who understands a lot. I love being a mom. I am also a music lover whose favorite pastime is going to concerts.

  • I love seeing so many animal lovers on here! It's fun to read about everyone.

I'm Jessica and I'm in DC. DH and I are both 35 and this is our first baby (and the first grandchild all around!). We just celebrated our first anniversary :-) We're both in grad school, he's getting a masters in international education policy and I'm getting mine in conservation biology & environmental policy. The sad thing is that he's at Harvard and I'm in DC, so we're living apart for a few months. We're both quite independent so I thought it would be easier than it is. I'm lucky to have an amazing and wonderful husband, but it's sad to not be able to share every day with him right now.

I DO, however get to share every day with my beautiful but obese gray cat named Woodpile. Before going back to school I worked in animal protection in Latin America. I loved it but was ready to go back to school, and I love that too. I'm mostly vegan and DH went back to being vegetarian last summer, so that's been great. Aside from snuggling animals, I spend as much free time as I can outdoors (but there's not a lot of that in grad school). I also love to travel, and in fact LO was conceived while DH and I spent three months backpacking around Indonesia for our (delayed) honeymoon. We were planning to start trying right about now, so it was a bit of a surprise, but we're not complaining!

Guess that's it...thanks for sharing, everyone!

  • Hi! I'm 34 and DH just turned 36.  We got married last December with wonderful Christmas accents to our wedding. We've been together almost 10 years. DH works in advertising and I can't say what I do yet, because I'm not 'out' at work. :)

We conceived on our first time ever which was quite surprising to us (and my doctor)! We are thrilled and so is my MIL and Grandmother-in-law as this is their first grandchild.  Grandmother is Greek and she has been waiting to be a 'Big Yiayia' for a very long time.  She'll be 90 in May. <3

I'm most nervous about carrying to term. I was a preemie, so I just pray the baby stays in there until the due date or beyond. I have asthma and it's no picnic.  My husband is most nervous about being a single Dad in the mornings. I work early, so it'll be up to him to get the baby fed and to daycare.  Sleep is VERY important to him.  Me, I can get by with little sleep, but I do have my limits!

I will use disposable diapers, I will breastfeed for as long as I can, I will start the baby in a crib in his/her own room from day one.  I hadn't thought about baby food, but I suppose I can make my own. It's not hard. :) I will allow my MIL to stay with us AS LONG AS SHE WANTS!!! HA! She live in MI and we live in WI. We just told them last week and she already bought the baby a sleeper with ducks on it that reads 'grandma loves me.' <3 I really like my MIL.

That's about it.  I'm planning to have a 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' themed baby shower in February.  My sister and a dear co-worker want to plan it, but I already scouted a venue (the bride in me just can't let go!).

I can't wait to get to the second tri and I'm happy to be on a board with so many wonderful, strong women and mothers.

    Cheers!

ETA: I'm allergic to animals so none for me much to my DH's dismay.

  • I am 28 and my husband is 29.  We live in a small town in Kansas.  I am a SAHM and my husband is a software engineer.  This will be our second child.  We were using NFP to avoid pregnancy but got weak and here we are. :)  We have a beautiful 8 month old who is keeping us busy!  We seem very crunchy granola although we are not at all part of the green movement.

I breastfeed and hope to continue( if my body cooperates) until LO self weans.

    We cloth diaper

I love to babywear especially since LO was a colicky baby.  I don't know how people survive without wearing their baby!

We do baby led weaning.  This is where the baby starts on whole foods rather than on any sort of cereal or baby food.  LO has done wonderfully at it!

We are religious and attend two services most Sundays since my husband is catholic and I am Methodist.

We travel back to Iowa often since both of our parents are from there.

We hope to have a larger of family of 6 kids or so. (we'll see as we have more.)

  • My name is Kim, I'm 33 and DH is 36. We have been married 1 year, 3 months and this is our fist child.  We were very lucky and I got pregnant on the first cycle trying.  I was so worried that it would take us time since we are both in our thirties. We own a home in Philadelphia.  I'm from New Jersey so it was a bit of an adjustment for me to move to the city after our marriage.  I admit that I flirt with the idea of moving, our home is 100+ yrs old and lovely, but I would like some more modern ammenities.  Poor DH bought this house and put so much work into it that I know the thought of leaving would break his heart.  We both work full time and I still work at my pre marriage job an hr's drive away.  My ideal is to continue at my job 2 days a week in office and do some work from home.  I work in the administrative field for a dental office with five locations.  Payroll, bookkeeping, HR and just about anything else needed.  My emplyoyers have quite a few other businesses and I work for them as well along with personal assisting.  I met them 12 years ago when I began working as their nanny.

This is the first grandchild on my husband's side and the third on my side.  My sister has two children.  Odly I feel that my parents are more excited than DH's.  I don't know why.

I too am still very worried that all is well with this baby and go a little crazy before a Dr. appt worrying that something is wrong.  I have one tomorrow so I hope to relax for a few weeks after that!

MH and I are both 27.

    This is us!!!

I'm 31 and DH is 30. I'm a teacher and he works nights in a warehouse so there will always be someone home with the baby.  Honestly, all of those things I bolded are exactly what we have planned so, please, see above! lol.

We live in a basement apartment right now but plan to buy a house next summer when LO is 3 or 4 months old, I am not prepared to take on the challenge of either moving during the winter or moving with a newborn.

We plan for our child to be very active.  Whether it is dance, skating, gymnastics, sports we want him or her to know the value of an active lifestyle.  We also appreciate the social aspect of being heavily involved in extra-curriculars as we are only having one child.  We are both very independent, social, and active by nature and we are confident that our child will thrive in this lifestyle.

  • Thanks so much for sharing everyone! It's so nice getting to see everyone's stories =0)

I'm Cheryl and I'm 32 years old.

I'm in Pickering!  Hello, neighbour!  DH and I are planning to buy a house next summer though we are going to stay in the Durham area (hopefully Brooklin).

And I am in the same boat about announcing.  I have never been pregnant before and I've had no signs of miscarriage but I'm just such a worrier.

Are you going with a midwife for your home birth?  I'm going to deliver out of Ajax-Pickering but with a midwife--I've just been accepted by Sages-Femmes midwives (they are on Port Union just off of Hwy. 2)

  • My name is Cassie. I am 22, and my husband Chris is 32. When we met, despite the 10 year age difference, we completely hit it off! We are pretty much the same person, just with different "parts". LOL! We've been married a year in June, previously together 3. We are Christians and couldn't be happier with our Christian lifestyle. We are also very involved with our church. Chris is a HS teacher, and I'm a preschool teacher. We are also completely inseparable - we do everything together. Including me doing Fantasy Football with him and his guy friends, even though I know nothing about football (and would you believe it, I'm winning!!). We love to goof around and have fun - we are ALWAYS laughing...I'd say we're weirdos. :-)

We first decided we didn't want to have kids until we were married for about two years, but then we realized that things can happen and sometimes it isn't so easy to get pregnant, so maybe we should "start early". Well, for us, it was easy. I got pregnant on my 2nd month trying after getting off BC, but ended up having a chemical pregnancy. We were planning on waiting a couple more months, but apparently I'm extremely fertile, and we got pregnant before even getting another period! When I was 11 weeks, we found out our baby passed away at 9 weeks, in May. :-(. I decided to have a D&C two days later. We got some tests done, and our baby girl ended up having a chromosomal disorder, Turners Syndrome. While I'm happy this syndrome has nothing to do with the parents, as it's just a "bad luck" sort of thing, it still kind of hurts knowing little girls can survive this and be born, having this syndrome. I miss my little girl all the time.

We avoided that first month after, planning on taking two, when again, my fertile self decided to get pregnant and here we are!!! So far, so good! I pray EVERY single day for this baby. I feel hopeful about this one, but...then again, I did last time too. I'm trying to see the positive and not focus on the negative, but being PgAL is hard. So far we haven't told a soul yet either - just waiting on our next ultrasound at 10 weeks and maybe then we'll spill to family. No one else until 15 weeks....or until its pretty obvious. I am planning on breastfeeding, too. And I'll be quitting my job and being a SAHM!!

I just can't WAIT until April!!! We are so ready to be a family of three and have the worlds coolest kid! :-P

  • Good idea!

Well my name is Emily and I will be 23 on September 21st.  My fiance is 25 (I call him my hubby but we aren't married yet).  We are HS sweethearts and will have been together for 7 years in February.  We have a wonderful 5 and a half year old son.  When he was born I was 2 months shy of graduating from HS (which I did on time!!).  It was hard to get by until our son was around 3.  We moved around a lot (originally from beautiful British Columbia) and ended up in Edmonton.  We both found work here right away so we eventually bought a townhome last August and I'm sure we will be here for a few more years.  We are planning on moving back to BC in 3 or so years, we will see what happens.

All of our family is in BC (parents, siblings, our son has 5 cousins there...) and this makes me really sad because they will not get to see our new LO that much.  Just like we don't see our nieces & nephews that often.  We go back at least 3 times a year (9 hour drive) and our parents come here at least once a year but it`s just not the same as driving down the road to visit every week.  We are big on family so this is hard for us.

We had an ectopic pregnancy in November last year and it was a very traumatic experience for me.  All because of the doctors that I saw.  This is a whole other story though..  We decided to wait awhile to heal after that loss.

Our plan was to get pregnant in August or September so that we could get married in August 2012.  Well we got pregnant in August and we have our reception hall booked for August 2012!  Looking forward to planning for baby and a wedding!  Not looking forward to trying to get my butt in shape while I have a newborn!  Lol...

I work full time as an Accounting Assistant.  I like it most days.  I think I will work until the end of March (due April 22) but we will see what happens.

My SIL is due with their 3rd child in February.  I am excited to be pregnant with her although she is in BC.

I`m thinking about cloth diapering this time (didn`t last time).  I don`t know much about it though so I have to do some research.

I BFed my first for 8 weeks and only stopped because I was so uncomfortable doing it at the age of 17 in front of family and other people (which is where we lived for the first 8 months).  I always regret stopping and will try my hardest to BF for as long as I am able, up to a year with this one.

I had a natural birth with my first and am really leaning towards getting an epidural this time.  I felt like I was under water for 6 hours while in hard labour (not to scare anyone) and I would like to be able to relax a bit before pushing.  Then have it turned off so I can feel my contractions to push (sorry if this is TMI for this convo!).

I am super excited to be pregnant the same time of year as I was with my son.  It was awesome not being huge and too hot, etc.  I like wearing sweaters with a baby bump, I think it is the cutest.  I do need to find a winter coat though...

Anyways, getting carried away here.  I admire my fellow previous and current young mothers.  And everyone else of course.  Wink  This seems like such a nice board compared to many others..

OH one more thing.  I was due with my son April 5th and had him on April 7th, so whenever I see those due dates I smile and get all warm inside lol.

  • DH and I are both 27 and have been together for almost a decade.  So we feel very ready to see if we can make some cute babies!  I've been a stay at home wife since we moved about a year ago.  I love being able to take care of everything that needs to be done for our house, but it can be boring at times!  Definitely looking forward to being a stay at home mom though.

I love reading about fashion and beauty, and pretty much doing anything girly.  We move frequently, so I'm lucky to always have my best buddy with me.  Husband and I are super close and get teased about it, haha.

  • Love this!

My name is Lauryn, I am 23, and married to my amazing husband David for  almost 2 years. We live in CA in a house that we are currently fixing up to get it out of the 60's (popcorn veiling, wood panel walls, textured wallpaper... yeah it's AWESOME)

This is my second pregnancy, first to make it past 6 weeks :) I think I am 9 weeks, but we conceived again before I had another period after the miscarriage ("OMG you're SO fertile!"- my friends), so we're not totally sure.

We have 3 dogs, 2 are rescued lab mixes, Holly and Aurora, and the other is a border collie mix named Bear. They have been my parents' "practice" grandchildren so far!

My husband works in the oil industry, and I am a wedding/portrait photographer and run an Etsy store from home. I love that I get to stay at home to work, so when baby comes I'll be able to spend my time with him/her.

I plan on delivering as naturally as possible, and breastfeeding.

Not a big fan of the cloth diapers.

  • I'm Beth, i am 24, i have a wondeful boyfriend, Tom, 33, we have been together on and off for 4 years but have stayed together the last year and a half. We are not going to get married just yet, i don't believe a baby is a reason to get married so we are waiting. This is my first baby, his second. he has a 6 year old son who lives with his mother in florida. we own a house in Maryland. I work for a health insurance company, and luckily i get to work from home.

I lost my mom about a year and a half ago, she had been sick my entire life but she was my best friend, so losing her was hard. and strangely enough my due date is the 2 year anniversary of her death. i'm not big on signs or anything but it does make me feel like she is actually a part of this experience with me.

I plan on breastfeeding for the first year, the baby will not ever sleep in my bed (i move too much in my sleep, i am afraid i'll roll onto the baby) i want to try to make my own baby food but i don't know how commited i am to it.

I have wanted to start my own family for years, i am so excited that this is finally happening for me....i'm kind of afraid to believe its true.

  • Good idea for a thread! I have enjoyed reading the post.

I am 31 and my DH is 26 (yep, I robbed the cradle Smile). We got engaged 6 months after we met, and married 7 months later. We have been married for a year and a half.  We got pg on the first month of TTC. We both work for one of the big banks, he is an auditor, and I work in compliance.

I want to brag on DH for a sec, he has been wonderful since the BFP. I have become pretty needy, and he has stepped up around the house so much more. I am looking forward to the 2nd tri and feeling better.

I will go back to work after LO is born. My whole life I thought I wanted to be a SHM, but a couple years ago when I started moving up in my career, I changed my mind. (I also make more than DH, so it would be really tight to SAH).

  • This is fun.  While reading these, I had to scroll down to the siggy's to see who it was b/c that's how I feel I know all of y'all.

My name is Heather and I'll be 36 in November.  I've always been really independent, I said I was never going to get married or have kids...until I met Will, my FI.  We've been together 2 years and we got engaged in May.  I have a history of female problems and was on BC since 17 so my doc was advising if we wanted kids we should start early.  So we started right after we got engaged and I got pg in 1 cycle.  I will admit that, while I wanted to get pg, the first thing I said when I read the test was "I changed my mind" (I'm not really good with fear of the unknown kinda stuff).  But I am over the moon about it and I can't wait!

I'm from Orlando, FI is from East Texas and we live in East Orlando right now.  I have a SD Ana, she will be 11 next month and a SS Andrew, he just turned 7.  I work for a mortgage servicer and FI is a teacher at a local film college, I am concerned about going back to work only because the cost of day care is so freakin' expensive!

For the most part, I am a pretty passive and patient person, it really takes a lot to piss me off but being pg, I find my tolerance level is slipping.  My confession is that I'm not sure what I will do when the baby comes.  For now, the crib will be in our room just b/c we don't have anywhere else to put it.  I want to breastfeed and pump and I would love to try to make our own baby food and I wish I could cloth diaper but I don't think that will be an option with daycare.

FI and I love to watch TV and movies, our first year together we watched all of the Star Trek movies and TV series in Star Date order and we did it in 1 year (we're geeky, I know).  We hope to move out of FL soon because we hate the heat and lack of seasons (we're hoping for New England or Pacific NW somewhere).

That was fun, can't wait to read more!!
