I've just started using cloth diapers and I received a free sample with velcro closure. I've only used the snaps before. Do you find that the velcro wears out before the diaper? I want to be able to reuse my diapers for future babies, so I'm looking at ones that will last. I'm wondering if over time it just accumlates lint, hair, etc and then doesn't close properly. Any tips/advice would be great! TIA.
Re: velcro vs snaps
The only opinion that my husband has regarding ANYTHING CD is that he likes velcro and absolutely hates snaps...but like PP said, Thirsties velcro pretty much sucks and that makes DH even more mad when the covers constantly come undone. I've figured out that by buying used Thirsties or Bummis wraps actually saves us like $5 a cover and I'm not as upset about them not working as well. I will tell you that Bummis has decent velcro too but again, Blueberry is an expensive brand but you definitely get what you pay for. They have the stickiest velcro in the world lol I usually have to use two hands to get it undone.
My oldest diaper is a BG 3.0. BG 3.0's are known for their terrible velcro. But that one has been in rotation for three years, over two kids -- and while the velcro certainly isn't pretty, it still holds just fine.
I have two BG 4.0's that have been in rotation for over a year, and their velcro still looks practically new. The BG 4.0 velcro is WAY better.
I can't speak for other brands, though, as I pretty much only have BG's.
At any rate, I have a mix of velcro and snaps. I will tell you that my snap diapers are driving me NUTS right now, as DS is in between snap settings, and nothing fits right. I'm so thankful for my velcro diapers. Besides, replacing velcro is relatively easy, so I'd rather have diapers that always fit well but need a velcro replacement every few years vs. diapers that don't always fit well.
