NTR: Have you ever had a sinus infection?

I think I may have one/have had it for some time.  For the last two weeks, my forehead between my eyebrows has felt weird off and on - sometimes a tightness and sometimes a tingling.  And the last two days my right temple has felt tight/tingling too.  Add that to the fact that my nose itself is congested and I've also had a little bit of a dull headache (again, off and on).

DH says it sounds like a sinus infection but I've never had one that I've known.

If you have had one, what was it like?  Also, were you able to treat it at home or should I make an appointment with the doctor?

Thanks!

  • Sound like some sinus commotion for sure... Behind the counter in your pharmacy... Any of the allegen meds will help you.

  • Eek, I'm sorry.  I've had many.  Unfortunately, mine have always been much more severe and needed a doctor, but you may be able to get away with some Advil Cold & Sinus.  My doctor recommends that to take away that dull ache and the discomfort.  A lot of times mine make me very dizzy as well, because of fluid in the ears.  I would say if it persists, see the doc to make sure you don't need an antibiotic.

    Feel better!

    this.

any time I've had a sinus infection it's felt like the front of my head/top of my face was going to explode from the pressure. You don't want to let it get to that stage. It's not fun.

  • To me it sounds like pregnancy congestion. Try taking Mucinex. If there is mucus in your sinuses it will clear up. If not, then your sinuses are swollen...not much you can do about that because it isn't safe to take advil/ibuprophen, which is an anti-inflammatory.
  • I had a sinus infection before summer. It was horrible. I was in so much pain it wasn't even funny! You can feel pain in different parts. My pain was around my left cheek. No word of a lie I was prescribed tylenol w/ codeine. That didn't even take the pain away. It was in pain for 2 days. I was also prescribed a Zpak. I used the neti pot too.
  • I always get horrible pressure in my cheekbone area and horrendous pain in my upper teeth.  I also have a ton of post-nasal drip and green snot.  It's lovely, really.

I always have to get an antibiotic to clear mine up and i use a sinus flush to get the gunk out and relieve the pressure.

  • I typically get one a year, in October. This time, it hit me in September - last week actually. No fun, no fun at all.

Generally, my ears hurt really bad, not like an ear infection hurt, but more so like they are clogged beyond belief, and then there is so much pressure under and around my eyes that I feel like my face is about to explode, and if I touch it, it hurts even worse.  This time, I caught it early, so only my left side felt like it was about to burst into a million pieces.  Theres usually really bad post nasal drip, which leads to that great burning down the back of the throat.  And, if I bend over and stand up to quick, I get super dizzy.

It's awesome. I have never had luck clearing mine up with out an Rx. This week, I went to the Walgreens clinic (huge rave!) and they gave me Amox, which did nothing, so I was given a new Rx for Biaxin, and now 2 days later, I feel a thousand times better.

The NP did tell me to try Afrin nasal spray (but I've heard that can be addicting, I've never used it), Claritin-D, and Advil (or Tylenol) cold/sinus.  If you start those things early enough, it can sometimes be stopped before it turns into something worse.

It's no fun, no fun at all! Hope you feel better.

  • If you have a sinus infection you need antibiotics.  Just go to Urgent Care or Minute Clinic if they are i your area and they should be able to check you out.  Hope you feel better soon.  I hate Sinus Infections.  They burn so bad!

  • You should get antibiotics for a Sinus INfection. I get them a lot.

  • I just took some NyQuil. Hoping it helps. If not I'll give the doctor a call tomorrow. I always get sick when school goes back, but my head really hurts this time. I wish we had the Walgreens clinic. We don't have Urgent Care either.

  • I get frequent sinus infections and they are terrible. My face, especially around my eyes and nose, feels like it will explode from the severe pressure. Also, I often get quite dizzy from them and sometimes get toothaches. Any OTC sinus medication helps to relieve some of the pressure if i catch the infection early enough. Steam from the shower also helps temporarily.

  • I've had one. The pain in my forehead was more severe than what you described. But I was also congested, with a ton of pressure around my nose and my throat was irritated from post-sinus drip. If it's actually a sinus infection, you need an antibiotic. If it's just sinus irritation from allergies, you can get something at the pharmacy.
