GD eating fast food

If you have to eat fast food for lunch or dinner where do you go and what do you get?

Friday I left my bag of food at home and didn't realize it until I got to work.  I had food stashed away for snacks but had to go out for lunch.  First time since getting the GD diagnosis.  My numbers were OK but I spent a long time staring at the menu just trying to figure out what to get.  Also, once a week I have meetings till late enough in the day that I need to be eating dinner as soon as I get out of work.  So just trying to figure out what kind of options I have.

  • Depending on your carb allowance there are some pretty good fast food choices. Anywhere with a grilled chicken salad or sandwich is usually within my carb allowance and I was shocked when I saw that mcdonalds chicken nuggets don't have that many carbs. Fries are definitely out of the picture but I can get a 10 piece nugget with apple dippers (without the caramel dipping sauce) and my readings are fine. Of course its not the healthiest choice but when I get a craving, its a nice change. Anytime before I go anywhere or get food from somewhere quick I go online and check their nutritional info and I can usually find something that is decently healthy and within my carb count. I think chick fil a is my favorite Smile

  • The best one I've found so far is a junior Wendy's hamburger and a 5 piece chicken nugget. 
  • My go-to fast food meal is a Chick Fila 8 count or 12 count nugget with a side salad and unsweet tea.  It's pretty good.  I even eat ketchup with my b/c my GD nurse said ketchup is free (which I don't know if I believe or not).  

    McDonald's has a good bacon and ranch salad with grilled or crispy chicken with low fat dressing if you must go there.  

    When I go out to a restaurant I love to get a good, homemade cheeseburger (nothing pre processed) and I take the top of the bun off.  Then I'll sneak a couple of DH's fries and I eat a side salad with my burger.  Pretty good!

  • I get two crunchy taco supremes at Taco Bell once in a while and my numbers are always very good.

  • I  ate McD Nuggets. They have the same amount of carbs and protein so they balance each other. Just dont get honey mustard or bbq sauce!

  • I love spicy foods so I do two of the chicken bacon ranch flatbreads from taco bell, if I have been pretty low for the day I will add in a side of the refried beans. I'm allowed four carb servings for lunch and dinner though and have been coming back fairly low (80's) with that many carbs so I don't know if this idea is super realistic for everyone. If you have a smartphone you can check the nutritional info before you walk in :)

  • Chinese works very well for me as long as I avoid the rice. Panda Express allows an option to get (tastily seasoned) veggies instead of rice, my number rocked after a meal there.

    Mexican usually works fine for me as well as long as I avoid tortilla chips and such. Had a small burrito (read, not that small--they also have a mini) for dinner the other day from a local fast food place and my numbers were great.

    Most any salads from wherever I've been fine with and I agree that just ditching part of the bun if needed helps a lot (and avoiding fries).

  • I do Wendy's single with cheese and take off lower bun and a side salad. I like the croutons, if you skip croutons you might be able to keep whole bun but these are pretty bready. I can do this burger/salad combo almost anywhere. When really jonsing for fries I will have 10 and only do half bun too. I also love burger kings grilled chix.
