Question about NT scan

I had my first ultrasound this week and they scheduled me to come back in 4 weeks for another one and I'll be right at 12 weeks. They also mentioned doing the NT scan, if I wanted to. If my insurance doesn't cover the NT scan, do I still get the ultrasound or is the ultrasound and the NT scan the same thing??

Re: Question about NT scan

  • The ultrasound is part of the NT scan.

  • Okay, thanks! That's what I thought but then I saw other people talking about their 12 week ultrasound but nothing about the NT scan, so I wasn't positive.

  • It all depends on your insurance.  Your insurance may cover ultrasounds but not the NT scan.  It also depends on why you're having the ultrasound done.  For instance, my insurance will cover any ultrasound done if there is a problem.  For instance if I have spotting I can have an ultrasound done.  I believe that during a normal pregnancy that they would only cover 2 though.

the NT scan involves an ultrasound, but it is not necessarily done. it is an extra set of measuring etc.

  • Im getting my ultrasound and NT scan in 2 weeks and i didnt even check wtih my insurance if its covered.>!>>!?!?! uh oh - i just thought it was- thanks for the heads up- i'll give my insurnace a call
  • I just had my NT done this morning. The ultrasound is covered by my insurance, but the blood test isn't....so I skipped the blood test. It was sooo worth the wait, as my results were perfect. And I got my first clear u/s pics. I can see his/her little face! But most of all, i know that my LO is doing ok and looking good. But do check with your insurance. They might not cover any or only part of the test....and it's not cheap.

My insurance covers three ultrasounds, so I was going to do the same thing you did - just get the ultrasound but skip the blood test.
