I know there are so many choices out there. We have been happy with our single BOB and umbrella strollers, but adding another kiddo into the mix means we need a double of some sort. I don't think we'll go with a double BOB because I don't know how often I'll be running with both kids. I was thinking about the side-by-side city mini...but several of our friends have the city select double(?) with the carrier up top and the toddler in the front facing out. But I also like the idea of the compact Phil & Ted's. It's hard to know whether DS would mind riding in back though.
At some point we'll just need to go in and test them out, but I was hoping some of you could recommend your stroller (or warn against others) and why you like it.
I think we'll try to get a discount on this year's model once the new ones for 2012 come out.
Re: Pls tell me about your double stroller
We LOVE LOVE LOVE our BOB Duallie. We also really love our MacLaren Twin Triumph for errands and smaller outings, although the basket and sunshade aren't great.
On the multiples board, where everyone has some type of double, the popular doubles are the Bob Duallie, City Mini, the BJ City Select, and the Twin Triumph or Techno. I almost never hear anyone mention Phil and Ted's strollers.
We have a BOB Duallie, and I love it. It's huge and heavy, but I haven't yet had any trouble taking it anywhere. I love that it can be used for "off-road" and in stores. We also have a lake property and take bumpy walks there, and have taken our BOB on the beach with no problem. I will probably also get a McLaren double once the baby is big enough to be without the infant carrier.
When we were shopping for strollers, my issues with the other ones --
city mini -- not easy enough to take off road. I like to do trail walks, visit festivals, etc, and it just doesn't push/steer easy enough for those scenarios.
city select -- I loved the idea of this stroller, but I decided I wanted something more off-road capable. Also, depending on how big your big kid is, they may not fit well in the seat. It's pretty snug and not very tall. My daughter at 20 months would have fit in it OK, but not for long. Another friends' 20 month old daughter (who is bigger than mine) literally did not fit in the seat without the canopy hitting her head.
I don't like the idea of the phil and teds so I didn't look at those.
Dear Mama,
I am a Phil&Ted girl and I adore mine. Mine is the Classic (read: lower end, no frills) and there isn't much I don't like with it. I wish the brake were a little less firm -- it is really hard to disengage with flipflops, but I know it is solid. Mine didn't come with a cupholder, but others do. My husband wishes that it had handbrakes, but again, those that aren't lower end have them.
It turns like a dream, fits through doorways, my oldest loves both the front and the jumpseat (now that the baby is out of the carseat, my oldest sits up front since she is the heaviest). My husband argued with me that it was larger than my old Graco monster (MIS-TAKE) when folded, but I won that argument when we did a side-by-side recently.
Also nice is that if you wanted, you could use the jumpseat in numerous other contraptions, such as a bouncer. I don't but that's because I am a cheap bastahd. They have GREAT customer service (for their not-so-fabulous manual. Think: Ikea). FWIW, the 2009 version of the Classic (red), you could NOT use a carseat and the jumpseat simultaneously. But the 2010 (black) allowed both of them.
Double no trouble,
kewiegirl
We have two double strollers.
One was a gift - it's a sit and stand kind. I actually can't remember the brand, but it's nice (though a little heavy). My MIL bought it for us, but really for her when she comes to visit - she liked taking the girls for walks in it to the park near our house. Had she actually asked us, I'm not sure I would have chosen that one, but again, I think she was getting one she liked.
We just bought a BOB double jogging stroller off of CL. It's a dream. And let me tell you, if you knew me well, you'd know this thing is not going to be used for jogging.
We've pushed our kids in all kinds of strollers on all kinds terrain, and that BOB has the inflated tires and just the balance of the whole thing - it rides so easily I can push all three kids on it practically with one hand, even over grass and gravel and tree roots (think rolling around festivals, in parks, etc.). We'd borrowed our neighbors' BOB twice before deciding to drop $300 on a used one. I think it'll be worth it! The one we got I think is a 2007. I can't believe they have model years on these things - then again, for the price of a brand new one you could practically buy a used car.
I have both a city mini double and a select and in my experience with the mini I've had no trouble on non-paved areas. I have not tried to go for a trail walk though and don't think it would work well there. I have gone to festivals, plowed through grass and muck, and hit the beach with very little if any challenge. I do agree that the seats can be an issue on the select so you'd want to consider that but for the overall size and maneuverability its been an amazing stroller!
