Confused, why HCG for FET?

I just got a call from the pharmacy and they mentioned HCG as one of the meds that the new RE office ordered for me (1 of 7 meds). I"m confused. I thought that for FET you only need to take progesterone and estradiol (and on occasion, leupron).  Are they prepping me for a failed FET? Is that what's going on?

Re: Confused, why HCG for FET?

  • Hmmm, that doesn't sound right.  Call your RE and double check their protocol, maybe they sent in a whole order for you rather than just the meds for FET?

  • I can't imagine you'd need an HCG shot for an FET. I'd call your RE to confirm.

  • Don't freak out too quickly...I had hcg for one of my FET's to strengthen my O.

  • I did ovidrel on Sunday night which is 6 days prior to my FET, the reasoning I was given is that they're trying to mimic a normal cycle's hormones by causing what is like ovulation (even though it's not since if you're suppressed w/ Lupron you shouldn't really have any mature follicles to ovulate).

this makes sense. perhaps OP's RE is doing this as part of the FET protocol?

Yup, I'm sure it is part of his protocol, as it is part of my REs protocol also but I know not 100% of the REs at the practice use it b/c the protocol forms they send to everyone do not have it on there.

I was only able to find one thing about it in a brief google search, apparently a clinical trial ended earlier this year but I can't find the results yet. https://www.druglib.com/trial/29/NCT00398229.html

  • Thanks guys.

The link was very helpful :)

Sorry, didn't know you did natural FET cycle.  Mine have always been medicated so they have always prevented me from ovulating. I shouldn't have assumed.
