NBR: do you wash or dryclean your downcomforter?

Our dog got wet, dirty paw prints on our comforter while the cover was off being washed. Can I throw it in a gentle cycle or should I dryclean?

  • I've done both and honestly didn't notice a differnece.  Dry with a tennis ball to keep it fluffy.

  • I dryclean ours, but only because it is too big to fit in the washer or drier. I've read that if something says Dry Clean Only you need to dry clean it, but if it just says dry clean, regular wash is fine too.

  • My new dryer has a "steam sanitize" setting but before that, I've washed and dried ours in the old washer/dryer. I almost never manage to make it to the dry cleaners, though. One caution is to make sure it's completely dry. I had trouble getting it totally dry in the dryer so I ended up hanging it up to finish drying.
  • Machine wash.

For drying, stop it half way through, pull it out, shake it and put it back in. That way it will help it dry thoroughly.

This is what I do too.  Except I use a ridiculous amount of bleach.  We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a baby.  I swear I wash that thing almost every week. My dry cleaning bill would be crazy.
