Success after IF

Help me brainstorm a construction party!

I am planning L's second birthday and am going with a construction theme.  This is what I have so far:

Decorations:

Construction signs that say things like "Caution:  2 Year Old Ahead" (front door), "Party Zone" (mailbox), "Dumping Zone" (trash), "Break Room" (bathroom)", caution tape, orange, yellow, & black balloons

Favors/Activities:

Decorate your own hardhat, Tool/bubble toy thing, Stacking cardboard boxes and knocking them over, Drawing a road system on patio and putting cars/vehicles to play with

Food:

Personalized dirt cups, Construction cake, Brownies chunked up to look like dirt, Foods will either be served in galvanized buckets/containers or in the bed or a random, clean dumptruck.

What other ideas do you have??

Re: Help me brainstorm a construction party!

  • When my stepson was 3, they had a construction party for him.  I remember that they gave each of the kids a plastic, cheapo tool set as a goody bag with a child's apron from Home Depot (one that ties around the waist and has pockets for tools).  I've never seen them at Home Depot, but you might be able to ask for them. It was really cool.

  • Love your ideas!!! We just did this for C's 2nd bday too! His invitations were amazing, a picture of him in a hardhat superimposed in a tractor that said "Dump everything and haul on over! C's 2nd birthday is under construction!" and the inside had "construction site" as the place, "workin' shift" as the time, and "contact the site boss at..." for the RSVP.

Goody bags we did personalized hard hats with a little tool box and construction vest.......wrapped in caution tape.

We had Cones on the table as decoration as well as black table cloth with yellow electrical tape to look like a road and yellow plates/cups.

    I made tractor cupcakes.......

Here is a link to the decoration pics they are at the top ..

  • Thanks for the ideas!

The HD aprons are only $0.77 a piece, so I think I'll definitely do that!

May 5706 - Thanks for sharing the photos!  The cupcakes are adorable and that invitation is awesome!!  Sadly, I'm off to a late start (party is a month away) so I ordered the invitations quickly and didn't have time to make them as cool as yours!

  • candy corn make great traffic cones on a cake...
  • My DH got a spool of  yellow "Construction Site/Do Not Enter" tape that we decorated around the yard and living room with. I used DS's big Tonka dump truck and borrowed a couple to put snack mix in. My mom found a set of 6 construction vehicles at Target, that would a good size for putting around the cupcakes. I attempted to make a huge orange pylon out of balloons, that didn't go so well.
