List of number of baby items?

Does anyone have a resource about the number of clothing related items that are needed?  I have received a ton of receiving blankets, sleepers with feet, hooded towels, etc.  I don't know if I should keep them all or return some.  TIA.

Re: List of number of baby items?

  • I don't really have a resource per say.  I would think it would depend on how much laundry you want to be doing.

I think I have the following:

    10-12 newborn onesies
4-6 footies (it will still be kinda warm when he is born)
    Sleep sack (love these things!)
4 Swaddle Me's (I usually have LO sleep in a diaper and this)

The hard part is not knowing how big LO will be.  They usually won't fit in NB for very long and sometimes not at all.

  • It is a personal thing sometimes and a convenience thing too.

Towels are almost a waste to me. I felt better using my regular towels than the thin baby ones.

Sleepers...imagine how many you COULD go through in between laundry loads.  Same with onesies.

Receiving blankets.  What are you going to use them for? burp cloths? under baby? cover baby? swaddle? The more uses you can get out of them, the more you'll need.

  • Thanks ladies!

As for the receiving blankets, I honestly have no idea about the different things I could potentially use them for :::blushing:::.

  • I'm just kinda winging it!  I have quite a few of everything except for burp cloths.  I dont have very many of those but everyone has told me that swaddling blankets can double as those.  Some websites have like ideal registry numbers and I know I have seen a list on this website somewhere.... I just dont remember where or I'd post the link.  Sorry.

cant some of the bigger receiving blankets be used for swaddling?

lucieslist.com is a great resource. When you subscribe with her (free) she sends you a list of things you need. It is really a list of what to register for, but it gives you the amount of things you'll want when the baby comes. Some of it seems a little extreme to me, but you can always modify!

I don't really understand what receiving blankets are for either...to me they are too big to be burp clothes but too small to effectively swaddle. I returned a few of mine and just kept one set. I replaced them with the Aiden and Adais (spelling?) blankets instead.

  • I have about 10 blankets (not thin ones for swaddling - the type you would use to cover the stroller or keep the baby warm while in the stroller.

I definitely dont need that many but I dont think it is worth returning them and I have no gift receipts.

However, I am returning the blanket hand me downs to my friend.
