My hospital is El Camino in Los Gatos. I have the option to take classes (birthing, breastfeeding, newborn care, etc) at either my hospital or Harmony in Campbell. I can do the hospital tour as a separate thing.
Has anyone taken classes at Harmony or El Camino LG? How were they? Would you recommend them?
I'm doing the overview of birthing classes at Harmony in Oct, so I'll know which one I'm interested in after that. I'm probably just going to the general class though and not Bradley or Birthing from Within, so maybe it doesn't matter if I go to Harmony or my hospital. But, I will save my final decision until after the overview seminar.
Any other suggestions?
Re: Anyone taken classes at El Camino LG or Harmony?
I took classes at Harmony. I did Birthing From Within, breastfeeding, newborn care, and one other couples after children thing. I love Harmony and it was a convenient, comfy location for us. I also took whole birth yoga there for about 6 months, and did the new mom's group there for 4 months.
As for the classes themselves, the BFW instructors I had were just so-so. The main teacher was very blase and her co-teacher was a brand new instructor who wasn't very confident in the material. Two couples in our class knew very little about birth and needed more technical material which they didn't provide.
I had already read the book and found it amazing so I was a bit disappointed but we did use the tools and ideas from the class in our birth so not a complete fail.
The breastfeeding class was AMAZING. So so perfect.
The newborn care class was awful. The teacher was really not up to date on newborn care advice and products and had a tough time answering questions without showing her bias.
Not what I expected from Harmony. We took the class more than three years ago so it's unlikely the instructor is the same. The other class felt like a waste of time but maybe we were delusional.
Ditto that! And I have Zoe to thank for introducing me to it!
We did Birthing From Within and really liked it. Kristin Evans, the owner of Harmony, was our instructor. I'm not familiar with any of the other instructors, but Kristin was great. We've kept in touch with the other couples from our class and I've become really close to two of the moms from the group.
I did prenatal yoga like my life depended on it at Harmony- the instructors are absolutely wonderful.

I have spoke often about my love of Harmony. It's such a warm, supportive place for families in the making. For a whole year of my life it was my second home and the place I felt most comfortable.
As for BFW classes, Kristen was not my teacher. I wish she had been! I'm sure she's amazing.
