Baby proofing question: Dresser drawers

Did you put latches on your LO's dresser drawers? I have not done that yet and DD has started opening all her drawers and throwing her clothes all over the place. I'm nervous she will close the drawer on her fingers or it will open fast and hit her in the face.

Re: Baby proofing question: Dresser drawers

  • I'd be more worried about the dresser falling over (those accidents happen all the time with kids climbing onto open drawers, etc.). We haven't yet, b/c he hasn't shown a big interest, but if he does, we'll definitely put the latches on.

  • I did attach the dresser to the wall this weekend, just haven't done anything to the drawers.

  • No. I am not really worried about her slamming her fingers. If it happens it will hurt, but it will also teach her not to slam drawers...sometimes that's the best way to learn. Luckily it hasn't happened because she already learned that lesson on one of the drawers in the kitchen that holds our dish towels. Hasn't happened again.

  • We did not.  And yes, she caught her fingers on our drawers and hers (and the kitchen ones) at least once.  But never again after the first day she did it.  She's quite clearly learned to close the doors with an open palm from that experience.  She's not going to cause grievous injury from the closing the drawers, though she may cause grievous mess from throwing clothes... that's part of the fun of childhood, though. :P
