I hate nap time

it's nothing but pure frustration for me these days. he just sits in his bed and sings and plays and has NO interest in falling asleep. it's like he can't wait to get in bed and play for and hour and a half.

and there is no earthly way that I can take a rest because he so F*CKING LOUD. he's talking and singing and squealing at the top of his lungs. and I can't just go to the basement or something because he's awake in his room and I need to be alert in case he falls on his head or something, especially since he's so rambunctious.

maybe once a week, if I'm lucky, he'll fall asleep and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. I can run him ragged at the park all morning and when he goes "down" (ha!) for his nap, it's like he just chugged 3 Red Bulls or something.

and after all the awesomeness of him not napping, what do I have to look forward to? the crankiest toddler in the world by dinner time.

  • What is this nap time thing you refer to? We can't even get ours to stay in her room....

okay, I am lucky in that he does stay in his bed, in his room. (knocks on wood)

but we have his inside door knob baby-proofed and he hasn't figured out how to open in on his own (this is useful for timeouts). bwahahaha!

  • can you try earlier bed time instead?

he may just be ready to drop his nap, he's the right age for it

I know exactly how you feel!

no, I can't make his bed time earlier on a regular basis. we start getting ready for bed at 7:30. if I tried to put him to bed earlier, I'd have to give him dinner at 5:30 or 6 which is before DH gets homes from work and I think it's important for us all to eat as a family.

  • Maggie dropped her nap by 2 and did the play time thing.  I still put her in her room when Molly is supposed to be napping (she is currently dropping it now too) and she plays.  I hate not getting a nap if I am super tired during nap time - that always seems to be the day Molly wants to scream and Maggie has a request every 5 minutes.  I think they should all nap until the day they leave for kindergarten.

    or leave for college LOL

  • Me too!!! The only thing I can ever get to work now is to put the kids in my bed with me and sometimes they will sleep. Today DS fell right asleep but it took DD an hour to settle down. Then DS was up 30 minutes later. So much for my nap!

    Amen! lol

Yesterday DS told me around 2pm "Mom I think I need to nap", I got so excited because he rarely naps for me anymore and I had to work last night, so a nap would have really hit the spot. Of course, at that time, he doesn't nap. Around 5pm, as we are getting ready to leave the house to take DH to the airport, DS to the sitter's and me to work, he says to me, "Mom, I think I am tired. I need to nap now." Really??? Now??? And of course he falls asleep in the car on the way to the airport...thanks kid!

  • Ooooh ooooh, I wrote in a few weeks ago with a nap question and my daughter (2years, 4 months) actually started napping again during naptime.  I (think) I finally hit the right timing combo of playground and snack.  Or maybe she was just really tired that week.  Anyway, she goes into her room either way because I have a hard time handling her all day and she gets pretty whiny if she doesn't have down time.  So!  There is hope, keep trying :)
  • Do you have room-darkening blinds/curtains?  I always have to make sure to block out as much light as possible to get DS down for his nap on the weekends.  Daycare has all the lights off and the blinds closed for their naptime so it's pretty dark.

  • Have you tried napping with him in your bed? M has always been a bad napper, but he's more likely to nap if I cuddle with him in our bed (and then I get to nap, too).
