Hackensack Univ. Med Ctr. - If you delivered, or plan to deliver there, please come in.

My Dr. is great, but she's located in nyc (upper east side) and the hospital her group is affiliate delivers in a hospital that doesn't guarantee private rooms, which has me a little freaked out.  I've heard great things about other people's experiences with HUMC, but nobody that I know had a great experience w/their OB, so I'm asking you all for some help.  I'm located in Hoboken and want to find an OB group affiliated with HUMC in Hudson/Bergen Cty.  If you have any experiences (positive & negative), suggestions or advise, I'd really appreciate your help.

    I went to  a group located right at the hospital....Kopp, Gerardis, Schwartz and Silva are the four doctors.  I

     Silva did my C section and she was wonderful.   I  know a lot of people on here have used them and had a great experience.     I highly recommend them!

    While the above group is great, I recently stopped seeing that practice as I was looking for a more personal experience.  When you go there you see any doctor and any doctor will deliver your baby.  Its also extremely busy and the wait is out of control.  I'm now seeing Dr. Levat (just a few blocks down from the hospital at 120 Prospect.  Its just her and an NP and I love them both.  I wait 10 mins tops to see the doctor.

    Funny you say that because in all the times I went there during my pregnancy I waited tops 10-15 min.  

    As for it not being personal...I felt it was very personal and although you see 4 doctors you are pretty much garaunteed that one of them will be there when you deliver.  At a one person practice, there is a chance your doctor may  not be available or on call and you are stuck with a doctor that does not know you when you deliver...not a chance I would take.

    I too use the group mentioned previously.  My main gyn was Gerardis but Schwarz ended up doing my c-section.  He did a wonderful job.  

    I will say that I experienced a few long wait times, but nothing that was bad enough to make me want to leave the practice. 

    You will meet with all of the doctors during your pregnancy so that you can get to know them and it really is a matter of chance who delivers your baby(to my knowledge) 

    HUMC was a WONDERFUL hospital.  I honestly felt like I was in a hotel for the 5 days I was there.  Good luck!
