Cloth Diapering

Rinsing poopy ones?

Alright so, DH and I are planning on CDing, and I have read the FAQs. But, I have a question. I understand that I may want/need to rinse poopy diapers, especially breast milk poo. I have looked in to diaper sprayers, and am considering one. My mom asked me what diapers I was planning on using and I told her about cloth and showed her different brands online (I'm planning on getting some pre-folds and covers and a few different brands of one size) . She explained to me that her mother used those (meaning pre-folds) and that she remembers dunking her brother's diapers in the toilet and then wringing them out. Ok, so here is my question- if I do spray/rinse am I going to have to wring them out or can I just put them in the diaper pail as is? My mom said I am going to have to, but aren't some pee diapers going to be just as wet and go right in the pail? And, if I'm doing wash every other day, they won't be sitting like that too long, right?  What do you ladies do? Thanks!

  • YOu don't need to rinse EBF poo! It's water soluble. I just tossed it in the pail and washed every other day.

Once she started on solids (enough to effect the poo, you'll be able to tell, trust me) I scraped for a while, then got a sprayer.

I spray them off, let them drip a bit into the toilet so water isn't streaming off, then throw them into my pail. Wash every other (or every third) day.

Hopefully you won't have pee diapers that are as wet as sprayed diapers. If they're dripping that much you have to change more :) And if you use pockets later, you don't need to spray the inserts, just the shells.

  • ringing out diapers?? OMG! Ick! That sounds awful.

I just recently started diaper spraying out my diapers since my daughter is now being given every solid imaginable at daycare. (annoying) The sprayer works really well and I don't have to touch any yuck!

I just started so I didn't even know there were diaper sprayers.  I've been using the shower head, lol.

    LOL !
We rent, so I don't know if we'd be able to install a sprayer....and we are cheap.
We just use the tub, or the sink. If it's sticky I'll get right in there with my hands :/ gross ? probably. haha

Go to Home Depot and look on the end cap of the plumbing aisles for Danco shower blaster.  It attaches to your showerhead and has an adapter for the showerhead so you can switch between the two.  Works beautifully and no chance of messing up the toilet plumbing or leaks on the floor.
  • I didn't rinse the diapers at all until DD started solids. I use a sprayer and do not wring them out. However, when I was traveling away from my sprayer and had to dunk the diapers I did have to wring them, because they were just sooo wet and I didn't want a mess on the floor.  With the sprayer you can control how wet they get.

Replace "especially" with "except." I have looked in to diaper sprayers, and am considering one. The PFs when really wet feel like a tea towel after the spin cycle before you transfer to the dryer. They likely won't even be that wet if you're changing often enough. nbsp; And, if I'm doing wash every other day, they won't be sitting like that too long, right?  What do you ladies do? Thanks!
