MAZDA 3 and baby seat! TERRIBLE idea!

So I have a Mazda 3. I've always liked my car the 6 years I have had it, despite the lack of gas efficiency, the terrible trunk opening size, the no leg room and the other little things. Well now I have HAD IT! There is NO WHERE in the back seat that the infant carrier fits! DSD is 4 and has a normal 5 point harness seat. She fits ok, but not alot of leg room for her. Well, to put the infant carrier behind the driver, you have to sit at a 90* angle, and its hard to get it in and out. In the middle, it is next to impossible to get out. And on the pass side (where we have decided to put it) the passenger will have their (my) knees in the dash.

I DO NOT recommend getting this car if you have kids!!!!

Someone send me lotto dust! I need a new car!!

  • We have a Prius.  We can (barely) fit the car seat in the middle of the back seat.  Sorry nieces and nephews in car seats...ya can't ride with us!

  • I have always lusted after the MAZDA 3.  Especially the hatchback version.  But, if it's any comfort to you, I drive a frickin minivan and am having the same issues.  With everything set up correctly I have to put the passenger seat way up.  Our middle row seats have the option of sliding that seat to center and it helped a little, but it's still not ideal.

  • I also have a Mazda 3.... a 2008.... I found it a little tricky to get the seat in to... I took it to th fire hall and he said it had to go behind the passenger seat because I need my seat so far back in order to drive... The seat has been installed for a month already, we have just taken it out to be comfortable in the mean time but DH will have to drive in my car just to keep himself comfortable... I don't mind being a little squished lol.... I know that forward facing seats fit really well so I can't wait till he's big enough for that!!
  • I have a Mazda 3, a sedan, not a hatch-back and I love it.  I think it gets great gas milage and I love the huge trunk!

That being said, we have not tried to install our carseat yet so now I'm a bit worried.  This is our first baby though so I think it will go in the middle so hopefully space won't be an issue.  We will likely have to upgrade to a bigger vehicle once we have more children.

  • I'm sorry, I'm lurking from January. I love reading the baby stories and my birthday is today, so I like to see the new ones coming in. Anyways, my point here is i have a 2008 mazda 3 and love it and I'm about toe put my 3rd child in it. It is tough with the rear facing car seats, but as mentioned, best place is behind the passenger. good luck and sorry you have your car :( And congrats on you babies, either here already or very soon to be here!!
