Success after IF

when did you introduce strawberries?

I am finding conflicting info on when to do this, did you wait until after a year or start earlier?  My pedi's packet in unclear on this - thanks.

  • I think he was around 6-7 months...but that was because I didn't know there was any issue with it...same thing with eggs..oops!  luckily he never had a reaction to either thing!

  • I think around 9 months, but by accident.  I fed strawberry applesauce not realizing it was not regular applesauce.  My mom has a strawberry allergy so I had planned to wait... turns out he had no problems and loves them like crazy.

  • According to my pedi, current thinking on this is not to delay unless there is a presence of allergies to that specific food in the family. We started strawberries and eggs and everything else when we started table foods - all around the same time! And he LOVES them! :)

This is what I've been reading and we have no history of food allergies.  I have strawberries in the house and I'm thinking a strawberry, banana, yogurt puree would be yummy for lunch!

  • There's no reason to wait...IIRC, we did them when we did everything else.

Unless you have a family history of allergies, go for it!!

  • We did it around 8-9 months when we did table food.

  • Our pedi gave us the green light on any food but honey at H's 9-month appointment. That said, we held off on strawberries specifically until he was a year old because DH is allergic.

    This.

  • Probably 7 months? She loved them then, loves them now. No issues.

  • I was on the later side -- around 12 months.  We have no history of allergies in our family but I def was a little nervous about prevailing wisdom at the time even though they now say the risk with allergenic foods isn't as real if you don't have a family history of allergies.
