What do you do when your kids are sick?

Weird question I know: but what do you do if they are sick? Walter was up about 5 times last night either pooping or puking in bed, on the floor, sometimes in the toilet. At 6 he was up for good so I got up with him and we cuddled and watched a movie. But now I wondering if I should have just stayed up all night? After cleaning him up each time I would try to go back to sleep either in his bed or mine. We hung out in the bathroom for awhile too but that did neither of us any good. I was sitting outside in the hall once cuz he wnted privacy but there was nothing I could do! Did I do the right thing trying to snooze when I could or should I have moved him to the couch sooner and kept us both up? What kills me is he seems totally fine right now. This is the second time in a week this has happened.

Re: What do you do when your kids are sick?

  • When M had the flu last year I did the samething, slept with doors open so I could hear, but tried to sleep between when he needed me.   The year before that when he and dh had the flu I slept with him in the guest room, with a bowl and towels on the bed, just in case.

Hope you both get some rest today, and that he is feeling better.

  • knock on wood this hasn't happened much for us.   Last time with Ben I set him up on a little air mattress he has (that's vinyl and easy to clean!) with a beach towel over it and I put him in our bathroom so he could get to the toilet easily or if he puked on the floor it was the bathroom not carpet.   and then I slept on the couch with cooper (he was sick too) and took our shirts off and wrapped us up in beach towels because he had no warning if he puked.    DH got up every time he heard Ben.  But we all tried to sleep as much as we could.  I don't know how just staying awake all night would help anyone... I think you did the right thing.

This sounds like a good idea.  We haven't had this yet but I think I would try to sleep as much as possible too .. you did the right thing :) Weird it's happened twice .. food poisoning or something similar maybe?

  • Close to the same thing. I think I kicked DH to the couch and Ella and I slept together in our bed (but on top of towels). That way I knew I would wake up when she needed me.

  • I lined the bed with receiving blankets and had a couple bowls nearby and easy to grab.  We went strickly with nursing when it happened so it wasn't too bad to clean up.  We slept as much as we could.
