Baby Names

Naming child J.B.?

A friend has just had a baby who has been named Jana Brennan (Last Name with S).  They plan on calling her "JB" (like "Jay-Bee").  Thoughts?

Re: Naming child J.B.?

  • As a nn it's not bad. I'm just glad they didn't name her Jaybee.

  • My friends recently named their daughter MacKenzie Jane and call her "MJ"... Both are equally bad, in my opinion.
  • My best friends name is Jessica B****. Growing up we always called her JB. She really loved it back in high school. Everyonce in awhile she would get some jerk that would say something about BJ's but for the most part it was fine.

lol, this. But I'd just use Jana if I were them.

  • Don't care for it on a girl.

  • I think as a nickname it's fine.  If she hates it, she'll never have to write it on a school paper or introduce herself to new friends as JB!

  • I don't really like it but I am not big on nn's.
  • NMS, but I don't think it's terrible.

  • I think it's kind of cute.

Jillian Christine was a name we both liked, I wanted to call her Jaycie, then almost right after that Jaycie Dugard was found and her whole story came out.

  • I think it's okay. Its so common for little boys to be J.B., C.J., etc. It's kind of cute for a girl without having a boy's name as her formal given name.

  • JB sounds like a boy nn.  Why not just call her Jana?
  • Eh - I really like the name Jana.  I REALLY didn't want family nick naming my kid, especially since my mom's first thought after I was pg was that we would name our kid EJ.  I didn't want any EJ, CJ, MJ, JB, nothing cute like that.  I wanted to use his name.

  • I think Jana is pretty, why use JB?

  • JB is alright! At least they were smart, we know someone who goes by BJ!

  • I like it, but we've decided on Delilah Jane (DJ), so maybe I'm bias.

  • We named our daughter Everett Jane (both family names) with the intention of calling her Eve if we thought she needed a nn.  Somehow, though, Eve seemed way too girly for her so my husband started using EJ, which I was previously totally NOT a fan of....but it seems to fit her and has kinda stuck.  Normally I really dislike initial nicknames, but it looks like my daughter may actually be one of them. (although I typically call her Everett or even Everett Jane)

    Oh well.

  • I went to school with a JB. It was a boy - James Barret. I think he was named after his father and didn't want to be a jr.
  • Well my brother is John Brock but we have always called him JB so I can't see it as a girl name.
