Train table for 2 year old?

I'm thinking of getting a train table for DS's 2nd bday or Christmas (which is 6 weeks after his bday).  All of the ones I've looked at are recommended for 3+.  Is this just due to small parts or is he really too young for something like this?  He hasn't played with trains much, so I'm really not sure!

Re: Train table for 2 year old?

  • We got DS a train table for his 2nd birthday and he loves it. I'm not sure why it's for 3+ but DS has never put toys in his mouth so I wasn't concerned about that. As far as playing with it, he really loves the thing and I don't think he's too young to enjoy it.

  • DS got one for his 2nd birthday and he plays with it all the time. We got a huge set of hand me down trains from my cousin. He doesn't quite know how to build tracks yet, but he loves to make the trains go around. He doesn't put things in his mouth either so I don't worry about that too much.
  • DS is 18mos old right now but he's getting a train table for Christmas.  Our local Barnes & Noble has one set up for the kids to play with and he loves it

  • When we go visit our friends they have their kids' old train table and he's entertained there almost the whole time we play games and such. She's going to give it to my son for his bday and the only thing I worry about is him climbing on it because he's such a little monkey, but other than that, I think your two year old will love it if he enjoys trains as it is like mine does :)
