DS started when he was just over 2. We were going to do two 1/2 days (2 1/2 hours), but they weren't available, so we did two full days instead. I had switched to a midwife practice almost an hour away for my VBAC and DS was too restless. At first he cried at drop offs, but he really took to it and then he didn't want to leave. We only had him in the full days until the end of their school year, which was when DD turned 3 months, so that was perfect. He just started class again and was super excited!
He went through a rough patch when he was about 15 months-19 months and I couldn't leave him at the gym childcare, so I quit that. He's a pretty independent kid though, so the transition was pretty easy for him.
DS born via c/s 11/08 and med-free GD VBAC DD 3/11!
I have been a SAHM since DD was born. She would go to my MIL's about once a week to play, but was never in a traditional daycare setting. She has done better than I could have ever hoped for! No tears, excited to go in the morning, etc. I think that she was really ready for this next step.
All the kids (DS starts on Monday) have started around 2.5 yo in an intro class that meets 2 half days (8:50-11:20).
We don't have MDO around here, so they were always with me. My oldest took an entire month to adjust. It was very hard, but that's her personality that comes into play as well. My middle one was fine. DS? I have no idea what will happen Monday.
Mommy to Barbara 11/8/05, Elisabeth 5/13/07, Loukas 12/23/08 and Lazarus 09/25/12
DD just started a week ago. She turns three in October. It's two days a week, 2.5 hours, play-based program. My main reason for starting her was socialization, which is something I'm not all that good at providing for her (we do have friends we see regularly, but there are no girls her age in our circle, strangely). No MDO or anything like that; she has never even had a non-family babysitter. She's doing great so far and seems to love school.
DS1 started last year with prek-3's. He turned 4 a couple days after the first day, because his b-day falls after the cut off date. He went two days/wk for 3 hours.
This year, he goes to prek-4 (again he's 5 cause of the cut off) and goes three days/wk for three hours.
In his case, he started staying home with me when DS2 was born in 2008. Before that he went to daycare for two years. However, he has never had any problem adjusting to new enviroments. Even dropping him off at daycare the first day.
DS2 will start prek-4's next year and he has no problem with me leaving him somewhere. I think he'll do great in adjusting. Both our boys are fine with seperation, because I think they know if Mom and Dad are leaving, it must be ok.
DD's first class without me was when she was 2 yrs old. She went one day a week for 1.5 hours. She had a really hard time adjusting. The class was 8 weeks long and by the end she was ok, but it was really difficult for her.
Her next class was when she was 3. She went 3 days a week for 2 hours each day. She adjusted MUCH easier. I think it also helped that it was 3 days a week so she was used to going on a more consistant basis.
This year she is 4 and she goes 3 days a week for 2.5 hours each day. She's doing great. No adjustment problems.
One of the most important things is to NOT sneak out when you are leaving them in class. Keep your good bye short and sweet. Tell the child where you will be when they are in class and that you will pick them up when class is over.
Just started this fall. She's 3.5. Her program is 2 days a week for 2.5 hours.
She's only ever been to the gym with me a handful of times and it was never a good experience. She seemed to always get hurt in there. But that didn't dampen her spirits for school.
Her first day was this week and she blew me a kiss and ran off to color. It was very anti-climactic (for me).
DD turned 3 this past May. She just started 2 day a week preschool; they go from 9 to 11:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She's never been in a formal childcare program like MDO or daycare.
So far she loves it! She actually cried at the end of the open house because she didn't want to leave. When I dropped her off this morning, she couldn't ditch me fast enough. I'm not sure whether to be happy or insulted!
DS starts on Monday. He is 4yr and this is his first experience in preschool. He will go 3 days/week 9-11:30. He is really excited and played with the other kids a little while the teachers talked to the parents today during orientation. We will see how Monday morning goes though.
DD just started this year she just turned 3 in Aug..goes 2x a week for 2 1/2 hours, they have an option to stay for lunch...we might take advantage later in the year. She loves it!

My girls just turned 3 in July and this was their first week of preschool. They go 2x a week for 3 hours in the morning. So far it has been great. No tears and they love going/being at school. Now there are 4 days until they go back next week (Tues./Thurs.) so I am hoping Tuesday goes just as well as this week did. I will tell you when I drop them off the room next to them is the 2 year old room and there is a lot of crying in that room during drop off. My girls started later since we were on vacation, so the rest of the kids have all been there 3 weeks now and it looks like the younger 2 year olds are still adjusting.
I don't think mine would have done well in a 2 year old program. They have been home with me since about 11 months old (I went back to work for about 6 months but was laid off and became a SAHM). But this is my girls, not every 2 year old has seperation issues. I just think for my girls, I am glad I waited until after they turned 3.

DD just started preschool 2 weeks ago. She turned 3 in early Aug. She goes 3 days per week for 3 hours.
I was SO worried about her adjusting well because she has never, ever been left with someone other than grandparents. At orentation she lost sight of me for a minute and had a meltdown so I thought we were in for it......but she ran right in her classroom without even saying goodbye on the first day. Never cried. She loves it and gets excited when I tell her its a school day. Won't even hug or kiss me bye because she is so excited to get to class.
