Actually, *two* potentially stupid questions for you ladies, each with potentially stupid sub-parts. (Whew.) Many thanks in advance for any facts/knowledge/advice.
-- Is there any real benefit to charting with a basal thermometer as well as using the CBEFM? This was my first month with the CBEFM and I did get the little egg symbol for two days. I know some people do both OPKs and the thermometer but does doing so actually give you more info to help you conceive?
-- How soon after the surge (little egg) shows up on the CBEFM does one generally O? I read posts on some of the forums by women who use OPKs 2x a day or whatever. How important is it to catch it right away? And how important is it to get with DH the morning it shows up as opposed to that evening? DH has a long commute to work so unplanned morning encounters are usually not an option for us.
Re: Stupid question re: CBEFM
Question#1: charting and the CBEFM. It can still be helpful to chart to "guarantee" that you actually O. Just because you get the little egg picture doesn't "guarantee" that you do O. Only the temperature shift will do that. Another possibilty: I have been using the CBEFM sproradically the past few months since my last IUI since I was either not trying while in an IVF precycle or doing IVF. I am not getting any peak days on any of these "in-between" cycles. Just day after day of High. Yet, my temp showed a temp spike and an O was confirmed by a P4 check. If I was just doing the CBEFM, I would have thought I never O'd. All of that being said, if you are still BDing, it may not be important to do all these things. It depends on how Type A you are and want to "know" things.
Question2: Some people have short surges and that's why they are testing multiple times a day. If they waited 24 hrs to test, they may never see the surge. If you get a Peak in the am, you are fine to have sex that night. You will typically O anywhere from 12-48 hrs after the peak. It just depends on the person and can vary.

I use the temps, CBEFM, and OPKs. I do all that because I have had many annovulatory cycles and I want to be as sure as I can that I have actually ovulated. Your question in not stupid. If someone told me a year ago that I would be doing all this, I would have argued with them that it would never happen.
This cycle, I O'd the same day that I got the first peak and the positive OPK. without taking the temps, I would have thought that I did not O until after the second peak.
I'm sure I'll do a lot of things I never thought I'd have to do before this is through!
