late but negative test

I was wondering if alcohol consumption or lack of sleep could cause negative results. I'm not actually trying so I'm not sure why my period would be so late. My last period was 4 and a half days long 8/2 - 8/6. My cycles are usually around 28 days long so at this point I'm about a week late. I've taken pregnancy tests for the past 3 mornings all with negative results. I have friends in town this week so we've been up pretty late drinking. I'm never usually late but the negative test are causing me doubts. I know the pregnancy hormone is highest in the morning but I was thinking maybe its diluted because of the alcohol or since I've only had a few hours of sleep maybe it doesn't have time to build up enough to show through on the test. I've used two clearblue digital test and one generic from the dollar store. This is really stressing me out since this is really not normal for me. Has anyone had this happen but your period show up late?

It would drive me crazy to wait 60 days! Do you know what caused you to be so late?

I have no idea! I'm pretty sure I just ovulated very late and that's what caused it. I started temping and using OPKs this month so I would know for sure when to expect my period. Try being patient, I know it sucks!! Stick out tongue

Yes, this has happened to me - because I ovulated late. It happens. No, drinking and loss of sleep will not affect a pregnancy test. Why don't people believe pregnancy tests?

You probably just didn't O, or O'd really late. Alcohol wouldn't dilute urine, if anything, it would concentrate it, since alcohol dehydrates you. Last month, I was really late, even according to FF, but AF showed eventually. Sometimes, AF just runs late.

Someone already responded to this part of your question. She said that it could potentially concentrate your urine and not dilute it.

And may I point out one thing? You think you're pregnant and yet you continue to drink heavily? Am I the only one that thinks that's fvcked up?

ETA - That chart DOES apply to you because you think you're "late" which you wouldn't know unless you were charting. Andplusalso you took a test and it was negative, there is your answer.

The simple answer is NO, lack of sleep will not cause a negative pregnancy test and neither would alcohol consumption. But both could affect your temp if you were actually trying and charting, thus maybe causing confusion, especially if it was around O time. That said: CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE NOT PREGNANT!!!!

Not that its really any of your business how much I drink, but I usually only do so on weekends. This week my friends and I have been going out so that's the only reason. Even if I am pregnant its too early for my drinking to harm anything.

Let's try this to answer your question and stop you from posting on this board. A pregnancy test measures the amount of HCG in your system. If HCG is present, the test turns positive. Alcohol would in no way decrease the amount of HCG in your system if you were pregnant. So, a negative test = not pregnant, whether you got wasted over the weekend or not. YWIA!

While I agree with this, what I was getting at was that she's so convinced that her pregnancy tests are wrong that she came here to ask us if she was KTFU and she wasn't about to stop drinking. And she also said she was young and wasn't going to let this stop her from having fun (and I took it as even if she's PG, she's still going to drink heavily). Maybe I misread what she meant, but if she's planning on drinking a lot while pregnant, I do think that's effed up, and I don't care who knows it.

From what OP said, she isn't just having a glass or two. I already said that I don't think she's pg now. BUT her response after that about being young and doing what she wants means that if she does get KU, she's going to continue to live her life bc she's young.

Drinking enough where you would be concerned it would dilute your morning urine is not a glass or two of wine. I know that red wine is safe to drink, even healthy, on occasion during pregnancy.

I am not sorry for what I posted because personally I find it disgusting that someone would do things they know could harm their baby while they think they're pregnant. She had thoughts that she was pregnant or she wouldn't have asked. I am sorry if my post offended anyone, but I'm not sorry for what it said.

While I agree with this, what I was getting at was that she's so convinced that her pregnancy tests are wrong that she came here to ask us if she was KTFU and she wasn't about to stop drinking. I'm personally in the drink til it's pink camp. On top of that, I had a glass of wine every 2 weeks or so WHILE I was pregnant. Should I be sterilized too?

While I agree with this, what I was getting at was that she's so convinced that her pregnancy tests are wrong that she came here to ask us if she was KTFU and she wasn't about to stop drinking. And she also said she was young and wasn't going to let this stop her from having fun (and I took it as even if she's PG, she's still going to drink heavily). Maybe I misread what she meant, but if she's planning on drinking a lot while pregnant, I do think that's effed up, and I don't care who knows it.

I didn't take it that way at all. I also don't think she is convinced that she is PG. Regardless, telling someone they should be sterilized is not OK (I know it was not you that said it, thus why my above reply was not directed to you). Regardless of what they choose to do with their own body. JMO.

Agreed, I was just making sure you didn't think I was going along with the sterilized comment and giving my reason for questioning why she was drinking so much.

From what OP said, she isn't just having a glass or two. I already said that I don't think she's pg now. BUT her response after that about being young and doing what she wants means that if she does get KU, she's going to continue to live her life bc she's young.

Drinking enough where you would be concerned it would dilute your morning urine is not a glass or two of wine. I know that red wine is safe to drink, even healthy, on occasion during pregnancy.

I am not sorry for what I posted because personally I find it disgusting that someone would do things they know could harm their baby while they think they're pregnant. She had thoughts that she was pregnant or she wouldn't have asked. I am sorry if my post offended anyone, but I'm not sorry for what it said.

She IS NOT pregnant. And you are assuming that she would continue to drink even if she was. She never said that. You know what they say about people who assume...

The inconvenience of her late period. She never one said she thinks she is pregnant. She asked if alcohol can cause a false negative. She also asked if anyone has been late but not pregnant. Maybe you are right and she would continue to drink even if she was pregnant. But you know what? It's really none of your business if she did.

This is none of your business!!! I'm young and I'm going to continue to live my life. I came on this board because I know the women here are trying so I figured someone may be able to answer my questions about being late but not pregnant or about incorrect pregnancy test.

I've got to agree with OP here. There was a big charity fundraiser DH was participating in when I was 6dpo the cycle I got pregnant. I may or may not have drank heavily. I think it's kind of ridiculous to flame her for that.
