Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone cruise with kids yet?

Due to MIL drama, my daughter is going with us on vacation and on her first cruise in just 10 days.

This will be my 6th cruise, so Im embarrassed to admit that I've never paid attention to this before.... but has anyone cruised with toddlers yet to pay attention to railings on open air decks? Im kinda worried (irrationally) that my adventurous 19 month old is going to run right under them and off the back of the ship. I know our balcony railing is glass and safe. Anyone know anything about the decks though? Should I pack a (gag me with a rusty spoon) kiddie leash? I really dont want to do that.

Also posted over in 2nd tri for people who may have babymooned recently....

My Signature won't work! I am a proud mommy of two (1&3) and starting an adventure to help a family having a baby through surrogacy. ***My Surrogacy Blog*** http://www.themandyloo.blogspot.com

Re: Anyone cruise with kids yet?

  • We went on a cruise when Ry was 8 months old, and it was great. All of the rails are have glass on the bottom so unless she climbs over it she's not falling off. The only thing I can say is it is very different cruising with a baby than without. Be prepare not to relax, and just to let you know most cruise ships don't let kids in swim diapers in the pools. One thing that is nice is everything is already bolted down so babyproofing is done for you.

  • I know for some this is a UO but I am 100% pro kiddie backpack/leash.  I know that I'm saying things that have already been said but think about it.  Kids like to run free and we like to keep them safe.  You can try your hardest to keep a hold of her hand every second or hold her while she wiggles and wants to (understandably) get down OR you can put a cute as hell monkey backpack on her, let her pack it with snacks and let her run her little legs off while you follow with a little slack at a safe distance.  Aiden LOVES his backpack.  He thinks he's free and doing what he wants and I know that he isn't going to bolt into the road along side the farmers market.
