My Blog: Decorate This

Re: Exersaucers?

  • My ILS got us a Disney-themed exersaucer. It was not exactly what we wanted, but hey it was free. DD has been most interested in it since about 5 or 6 months.

  • My aunt and I picked up an exersaucer from the Harford County Wee-cycle. It was an older exersaucer, where you can take the seat out of the middle and can use it when their older. I think we started using that when she was about 6 or 7 months old. Basically as soon as you started to sit up.

  • I got one from Craigslist and my MIL (my daycare til DD was a year old) got one from a consignment store. I had an Evenflo pink "tea for me" themed one and MIL has a Baby Einstein one.  They both did their job ;) I think we used them from about 4-5 months til 10-11 or so?

  • My SIL gave us a jumperoo, so we did that instead of the exersaucer, but I think it takes up more space.

DD would still get in the jumperoo or an exersaucer if we had one around.

  • I had a jumperoo (Fisher Price Rainforest one) for DS and he LOVED it. He would jump and jump and jump hysterically and squeal with excitement....think we used it starting at around 6 months. We also borrowed an exersaucer for his entertainment on another floor of our house-we live in a 3 story townhouse and I would not want to haul that thing up and down the steps all the time. Actually Kathryn lent it to me :) It had some springyness to it and the seat rotated around with a bunch of buttons and toys he could push and play with-can't remember the brand name though. It was really funny because when he got in the exersaucer he would try to jump as hard as he did in the jumperoo but it didn't have the bounce factor of the jumperoo so it was really funny to watch him slam himself up and down.

I definitely recommend going the consignment route or borrowing from a friend...they will outgrow it before you know it!

  • we have the rainforest one and I put DD in it today!  She's still too young but can hold herself up and not fall over, she liked it for about 3 minutes then wanted out.

  • DD has a rainforest one from evenflo. We started putting her in it at a little over 2 months, maybe? She will play in it but I don't think she quite gets the concept yet. The seat moves around, but she just stays in one position. I'm hoping that once she can sit up on her own she likes it more. The one we have can be taken apart, so she can play with it when she learns to stand.

  • We have the evenflo one.  I didn't start using it until 5 or 6 months when she could sit up on her own reliably.  We used it alot in those early crawling/standing months when she wanted to be upright and independent.  We used it until she started walking around 10 months.

SK - you are welcome to borrow mine if you want.
