Don't complain to me

BIL had his gallbladder removed last week and we went to visit the day after.  As soon as I walked in the door he showed me his incisions (4 little band-aids).  He started to complain a little bit, and I asked him if he wanted to see my scar (jokingly).  He says "I guess you're not the one to complain to"

I'm just glad he acknowledges what I had to go through.  DH and I were living with MIL (BIL lives there too) for a while before and after DS was born, so he saw first had a lot of what I got to go through.

  • I actually thought having my gallbladder removed was way more painful then my c/s. I didn't have any gas pains from my c/s but did from the gallbladder. And you can't see my c/s scar, my gallbladder ones you can. I know I'm probably going to be on the minority on this but that was my experience.

  • DH had his gall bladder removed in February.  It was outpatient surgery and laparoscopic, so obviously a lot less invasive than a c/s, but he was still on pain meds for as long as I was.  While I'm sure his recovery was faster than mine overall, that first week was rough.

  • Having been there done that with both, I'd take a c/s over a gallbladder attack any day of the week.

GB surgery may not be as invasive, but the gas part and GI stuff in no fun. And the attacks? Awful. Simply awful. As in, I was afraid I was going to die, and then upset that it appeared it wasn't going to kill me, because the pain was so bad.

This.  All of this.  Plus the only pain medication that works for me is Vicodin, and after my gallbladder surgery, the doctor wouldn't give it to me, only Percocet, morphine and other like meds.  So I had no pain relief after surgery for about  20 hours.

  • I'm the minority but my gallbladder removal surgery was absolutely no big deal and hardly to take any pain meds.  My c/section on the other hand was awful and it took me 3 months to feel normal again.

No question about that.  I didn't have the attacks myself, but it sure looked like hell for DH.

I had my left ovary (and a very large cyst) removed about 10 weeks pp after my first c/s. That recovery was much much more difficult and it was a laparoscopic procedure.
