Trying to Get Pregnant

The sperm meets egg recommendations??

I have never heard this before and because I don't know everything I thought I would ask you advanced TTGP....

"If the Deanna-plan does not work and you are faithful to it for three months, take a dose of plain Robitussin cough syrup (or any cough medicine that says "expectorant" and NOT "antihistamine") each day (preferably a few hours prior to "trying") starting around Day 10 until the day after your ovulation predictor goes off. It should help make all the mucus in your body runnier, including that produced by your cervix.''

This is directly from the site...so what does the jury say about this??

Re: The sperm meets egg recommendations??

  • I think taking a medicine other than for its intended use is silly.

Yes, Robitussin and Mucinex are marketed to loosen mucus...but they mean the mucus in your nose.

I'd try upping water intake or try green tea before that.

Also, does it irk anyone else that the site uses the word trying and puts it in quotes every. single. time?

  • You can take plain Robitussin if you find that your cervical mucus is not thin enough. It should be an "egg white" texture, clear and stretchy prior to ovulation. I wouldn't just take it if another plan didn't work for a few months - you need to check your CM regularly for a few cycles to determine if its a good texture. If it is, there is nothing that Robitussin will do for you.

I am not saying it works, but robitussin is not centralized to just nasal mucus, it would affect all your mucus.

My best friends OBGYN told her to do this after 3 months of trying.  This is a top OBGYN doctor at Northwestern in Chicago.  She did so and then got pregnant.  Could of been that she would of gotten pregnant anyways that month but the doctor did tell her to take Robitussin to help.

My Ovulation Chart Hoping for a shamrock baby....Grandma, I know you are up there looking down on me. March and St Patrick's Day is a very special time for all of us. It would be amazing to find out I was pregnant in March! Please send me all your Irish luck (been trying for 7 months and I need it!) I Love you! XOXOXOXO

    REALLY?!?!

Yes, I know that--which is why I mentioned that little part about what it is marketed for.

Many medications have more uses than what they are marketed for.  I was taking blood pressure medication, due to hormonal migraines.  And I have seen women take viagra for hypertension.

Meh..I think taking a script med from my doc is a bit different than taking an OTC med "just because."  I mean I know Tylenol PM will stop pain *and* knock me out...but I don't take it just cause I need help sleeping.

The Viagra thing doesn't surprise me..It?s a mild vasodilator...but again that is under doctors orders and medical supervision..You wouldn?t take Viagra OTC ( if it were available) just because you took your BP at Wal-Mart and self diagnosed yourself?

I didn't say you shouldn't ask your dr.  I was just saying I could see how it would work.

Yeah, me too. If it works in one area then it should work in another similar area.

I do not think its silly at all.  Lots of drugs have side effects that are actually beneficial for treating other ailments.

If you don't have EWCM, try it.  Otherwise its silly if you don't need it.  This does work.  Infertile CM is a big problem for some people.  No amount of water or green tea helps me, in my experience.  But I use pre-seed instead.

  • The 2nd cycle after my D&C I was taking mucinex to aid in CM production.  I also happened to get pregnant that cycle.

Coincidence, maybe.  But I did have a sh!t ton of EWCM that cycle and I had almost none the cycle before.
