Also cleaning related - product raves?

Now that I am cleaning my own house again I am kind of at a loss for what products to use on which surfaces.  Here is what I have:

Comet for toilet bowls, bathroom counters, bath and shower walls, sinks.  I like the way it cleans but I feel like I have to wash counters and sinks again after I use it to get the film off.

Windex type cleaner for mirrors.

Tilex for stubborn shower ickiness.

Swiffer pads for kitchen floor and hardwoods.

I use microfiber cloths for dusting but no furniture polish or anything like that.

That's really it.  What do you use for the glass walls in your shower (if you have them)?  What about tile floors in the bathroom? Any other favorites you have that I should consider?

TIA!

  • I would say one of the best products that actually does what it claims to be able to do is the magic erase sponge. It truly does get almost any stain out. I also use the clorox wipes because they're quick and easy. Perfect for a quick wipedown and disinfection for any kitchen or bathroom surface.

  • I love Method products. Their all purpose cleaner is a must-have in my house. I've heard their toilet cleaner is great too, but have not tried it yet.

For windows I like the Method cleaner, but also like to make my own these days: equal parts vinegar and water used in a spray bottle purchased at Target in the aisle where they have mops, brooms, etc. And, it's way cheaper.

For dusting I use microfiber just like you.

Floors I use a mop with a mix of part vinegar, part water and a few drops of an essential oil (tea trea is a disinfectant), but you have to make sure it is ok for whatever kind of floor you have. Vinegar can be bad for some wood floors, etc. When I am going to clean on my hands and knees and really clean good I use warm water with just a couple drops of dish soap.

I used to use Soft Scrub in my shower and it is great on soap scum, but it's so harsh, and I am trying to minimize to I have started to make my own shower scrub. Here is the recipe:

    1 - 8 oz. jar

    1 cup baking soda

    ? cup liquid castile soap

    1 Tb. white vinegar

? tsp. essential oil (about 25 drops)

    1 drop food coloring

How to make: In a jar or bowl, mix 1 cup baking soda with ? cup unscented liquid castile soap. Work out the clumps with a fork. Add 1 tsp. white vinegar and stir. Use a spatula to spoon your mixture into the jar. Add the essential oil of choice; peppermint, lavender, tea tree, strawberry, anything!
