I do my shopping in NJ (just across the bridge and things are way cheaper) and alcohol can only be sold in liquor stores. No wine, beer, anything except in dedicated stores. Somehow Whole Foods managed to get liquor licenses and is able to sell wine, but that's really rare (and good because they have awesome cheap wine!). Each town was allotted a certain number of liquor licenses back in the 60s and that number is unable to be changed, so businesses who have them hold on tight and if they're selling them they go for something like $100K!!!
So yes, my kids go to the liquor store (or Whole Foods) with me when I need wine or beer.
No wine or beer in grocery or convenience stores? Wth? Even the Dollar Generals here sell beer and some wines. They may not be the good stuff but in a pinch I'm sure people snatch it up. I thought we were behind when they started selling and serving alcohol on Sundays. I wouldn't go into the liquor store with the kid simply b/c I have no need to and if I would worry her busybody would break something.
OMG. If this was true, I would finally have osmething to spend my $25 gift card to dollar general on!!
Kids can go in the liquor aisle at grocery stores in IN. At Meijer, the liquor area is next to (and shares an aisle with) the soda/water. I've been carded by just sitting in the bar area of a restaurant.
Maybe the restrictions are so that the kids won't break all of the bottles??
I haven't been to a liquor store in ages, but in VA they sell wine and beer in the grocery store. The only time I felt self conscious buying beer there was when I was pregnant.
DH often takes one of the kids with him to the huge wine store. They have grocery carts with a kid seat on them, so it helps to prevent them from running over and knocking over huge displays of wine.
We just moved to PA, and it kind of sucks not being able to buy beer at the grocery store.
We did in VA to get hard stuff, they sell beer/wine in the grocery stores though. I would always get carded buying wine with my cart full of groceries and my 2 kids...awesome.
Here in NV you can buy hard stuff in the grocery store so it's no big deal at all. I've grown to appreciate it LOL

Dude, I love WF wine. Even the $2.99 bottles are good.
Re: Because I'm curious: do you take your kids into the liquor store?

You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
So the next question is, would you take your son out of school for the day to go visit his grandfather at the liquor store?
