How to city mini straps fit?

This may be a stupid question, but I tried out my little one in our city mini stroller this weekend and it seemed to me that, even on the lowest setting, the straps were way too high for her (she's around 25th percentile for length, so she's smallish but not teeny).  I thought they were supposed to start right at the tops of her shoulders, like carseat straps, but if that's the case then it seems like a baby would have to be really tall for these things to fit right.  And I hear about lots of people putting newborns in this particular stroller.

Is it ok for the straps to fit kind of high like that?  They attach to the back of the stroller about 2-3 inches above her shoulders.  Thanks!

  • They are pretty big, but if you have the stroller reclined and the straps on you are probably ok.

  • We used that stroller with our little guy at 8 weeks (and he was a peanut), we just strapped him in and fully reclined and had no problems at all.

  • Yes, the straps were pretty loose when she was little.  We always used a snuzzler with it and that helped them feel a little more snug.  But as long as it's reclined all the way and she is buckled in, she's not going anywhere :-)

  • The straps are loose because no matter what BJ says...it isn't a newborn stroller. It's seat size, not 100% flat recline and strap size are for a child that is in the 6 month range. If you plan on using it prior to that and the straps are too big, I say get an infant insert for a more secure fit.
  • Meh....I've got the city mini and have been putting LO in it all the way reclined with an infant insert since she was 8 days old. Agree with pp that the insert helps with the straps. Sometimes I don't even put her arms through the straps, just buckle in her legs. She's laying all the way down and is totally fine.
