Spent 7 hours in L and D yesterday due to excruciating back and chest pain. The doctors all thought it was a blood clot in my lungs (SCARY!) but turns out with all the Relaxin (hormone) that causes our joints to loosen in order for delivery to happen, it causes EVERY joint to loosen...including those that keep your ribs in place. So turns out my ribs had just slipped out of place.
Warning: I have never been in so much pain in my whole life! Hurt to breath, hurt to move, oh man!
I was never aware that it could happen so I thought I would pass along the information
I'm feeling better today after the doctor prescribed Tylenol, 1 Motrin and lots of ice. No lifting anything for the next week and the doctor said it should be back to normal, just no overdoing it.
(The Motrin was a one time thing...just to get the inflammation to go down long enough for the pain to lessen.)
Re: Relaxin causes your rib joints to loosen? Who knew!?
Oh my GOD that sounds so scary!! You must've been totally freaked out and I'm so glad that you're okay. So weird to think the relaxin can cause that much pain. Glad that's all it was and that you're on the mend!!
