No, I am NOT 39 weeks. That is where I want to get to in this pregnancy. I know full term is earlier than that...but I've read several articles that say there is development that happens up until that time that is very important.
I see many of you getting induced for pre-e or other reasons, and I just keep thinking NOOOOO...I must get to 39 weeks. My dr is already talking about scheduling my c-section at 39 weeks to the day...I want 39 weeks 3 days though! It just works in my schedule better! And God willing, I'll go into labor before that!
Re: 39 weeks
I don't know if you meant this post to be abrasive, or passive-aggressive, or maybe I'm just a little sensitive right now, but I would love to go the full 40 weeks, because I'm aware of all the important brain development that happens the very last few weeks of pregnancy. I'm not having a fvcking party over here because I might have to be induced early because of possible pre-e.

Thanks, Happy A. I was just commenting to DH about this post. I am sure you didn't mean this to come across as insensitive, but for those of us who may HAVE to be induced early, it sounds pretty sucky.
GL to you and your goal. I'd like to get there too, but my body might not let me.
my initial goal was 32 weeks. I read that at 32 weeks, chance of survival is 95% or something like that. Now that we are all there, I am glad for us.
(and I know that there were a few babies that came before that and our little October fighters are amazing)
My new goal is 36 weeks. Mostly so I can go to a conference at 34 weeks.
I am sure once I reach 36 weeks, I will be okay anytime. Because my body right now cant imagine 8 more weeks. I am soooo tired and useless.
I know it isn't on my schedule it is on His. That said, I can hope and pray until my heart is content. I've done the 24 hour urine collection several times. I've had the high blood pressure that was checked every day to make sure I didn't have pre-e.
I also have a baby with a congenital birth defect riding out the next 7 weeks in my tummy. Next week the doctors may tell me he has to be delivered via c-section that day or the next. So in that case it is up to THEM.
Can't I just have a wish? a hope?
FWIW, I am hoping just to get to 34 weeks. With PTL, possible pre-e and other issues - that is the next goal. Your post does seem insensitive to those women who have no control over the issues causing them to have babies earlier.
With all the Oct babies being born now (and those that were born weeks ago) I don't really get the point of this post.
I was estatic when I made it to 34 weeks...initially I heard most twins are born by 35 weeks, and I'm almost there I am happy for every day that I get for them to develop but when we meet with the ped surgeon on Wednesday-- if he says little girl needs to come out , then she's coming out and I don't feel like I've failed at all. The outcome that means I get to take 2 babies home and make it home safe myself is where my concern lies-- and I don't think that I've done anything to "deserve" to be carrying my babies that the moms who have already had their babies didnt do. I'm just grateful I have mine inside, but if come Wednesday they are outside and safe, then great! I dont think there is ANYONE who WANTS to have a preemie, or to have to be induced early due to medical reasons.
That is totally not what you said in your first post...
That is just what I was thinking...
As others have pointed out, that's not even remotely what you said in your original post and I can see how and why so many read it as insensitive. You can wish and hope and pray all you want to make it to 39 weeks or more. I think all of us want that, ideally. I hope you make it to your goal and I really hope no one else has to go early due to pre-e or other complications.
I was born as a 32 week preemie and after lots of complications I was OK. I am thankful for every week that she stays inside past that point, but I'm trying to stay flexible, since she may have other plans at the end.
I would be. guess that makes me a super shiit mom. lol!
Ditto this.. this made me feel crappy reading this because they want to induce me at 37 weeks due to pre e and they dont want to take the chance of it getting worse plus I also have GD. I have asked the risks associated with being induced at 37 weeks and they mentioned that she could have poor sucking capabilities as far as breastfeeding goes and she could have jaundice, and could possibly have some breathing problems but since she has had steroid shots they don't think that will be an issue at all and they said that she will more than likely be a perfectly healthy baby that will be able to go home with me the same time I do. Also, I thought 37 weeks was technically considered full term and the last 3 weeks was just putting on extra fat? Maybe I am wrong though...
Depends... will there be alcohol served at this party?? LOL

i am pretty sure we all want to make it to full term. we all know the benefits of making it to 39-40 weeks. but not everyone is going to be able to and that is out of their control, so i have to agree that your original post is insensitive--especially to those that have health reasons causing their babies to be born early.
I apologize to those of you who are/were offended. That is not how I meant it to come off. I have a high risk pregnancy and want to get as far as I can. I was not in anyway insinuating any of you wanted to go early. I know keeping this child baking may not be in his or my best interest. I just have this hope/dream.
I too hope to go to full term. I think we all do. But sometimes it's just not possible due to medical reasons. There a big difference between elective and medically necessary induction.
However, there is research out there about babies born even one weeks early and the associated risks, for example --- https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1285105/Babies-born-week-early-risk-health-problems.html or https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1595289/
Sorry the links don't work - I'm on a mac.
I will agree that the OP came off as insensitive. I also think that there is a big difference between being induced for medical reasons and the growing popularity of elective inductions before 40 weeks. I know that you ladies who are facing early induction for medical reasons have discussed that decision with your Dr. and chose what was best for both you and your baby in your particular situation. That being said, there is truth in her statement about the 39 week mark. (disclaimer- this is not meant to be insensitive to those who have already delivered or those who are struggling with medical issues that may necessitate induction, just providing the requested links):

https://www.reuters.com/article/2009/01/07/us-cesarean-idUSTRE5067B620090107 (this is about c-sections rather than inductions, but still goes over the reasoning why some medical professionals want to change full term to 39 weeks).

I didn't read to OP as insensitive, but maybe that is because I know all the problems she has had with this pregnancy. To those of you who HAVE to be induced early, I can see how it might upset you. Just like how when I hear people moan and groan over minor m/s, when my m/s has been off the chart and I am STILL having it.
Spedi- I REALLY hope you make it to 39 weeks!
My DD was born at EXACTLY 37 weeks. She came on her own. She hit every milestone when she was supposed to and is the smartest little 1 year old I know. She did have SLIGHT jaundice when she was born but was otherwise healthy. She was 5lbs 10.5ozs and 19in long. She's now 13 months, 18.5lbs and 28in long. Nothing indicates there is anything wrong with her because she came 3 weeks early. She is just starting to walk, plays unbelievably well with her toys and can figure things out that even I have to question sometimes! Don't worry, your baby should be perfectly fine at 37 week... Just look at my siggy pic and you can tell how "fine" my DD is!

Not trying to freak you out, especially considering that I saw the post you started above this one, but there is more to crucial development milestones than just lung development. Lots of other organs (like the brain) continue to develop.
This link has lots of additional information and the visual that has stuck with me since I saw it at a doctor's appointment early in this pregnancy - from the March of Dimes:
https://www.marchofdimes.com/pregnancy/getready_atleast39weeks.html
Who doesn't want to make it to the full 40 weeks like you're suppose to? Do you think anyone WANTS to go into labor before they're suppose to, for any reason?
As someone who is currently in the hospital on strict bed rest with my water broken, I'm praying I make it to 34 weeks.
I'll be 32w5d tomorrow. I've had some random contractions here and there, but nothing consistent. Right now it's all about keeping infection away. If I go into labor between now and 34 weeks, they aren't going to stop it. But 34 weeks is our goal.
Wasn't E born early?
That's good that feeding was his only issue! How is he now? My doctor was saying that there have been studies done on preemies born at 34 weeks, and developmentally they show no difference in the long run as a full-term baby. They're problems are usually up front - feeding, temp regulation, lungs, etc.
While I agree that the OP's post came off as insensitive, there is research out there supporting the recommendation that if you will be delivering via c-section or being induced and can wait (in the case of breech or previous c-section, etc.), then you should wait until you are as close as possible to 40 weeks. A lot of c-sections are scheduled at 38/39 weeks, and from what I've read, the suggestion is that doctors should hold off on that so that they babies are as close to 40 weeks as possible.
Of course, this only applies to those who have the option. For those who must deliver early for whatever medically necessary reason, it doesn't apply. And thankfully many of those little ones survive and thrive.
really? you haven't seen all the posts from girls on 3rd tri wishing labor on themselves the minute they hit 37wks, just b/c they are uncomfortable?? aksing about castor oil and red leaf tea?? there was a girl who posted on this board how she thought her water broke at 35wks and was mad when she realized it wasn't!! I am so sick of these posts, i would kill to make it to 40wks but i know that is most likely not going to happen.
the facts on the extra 3wks are now proven, it's important to try to go the full 40wks. there is talking of making full term 40wks now, not 37...b/c that is how important it is. this obviously applies only to "normal" non high risk pregnancies. of course not every baby born before then will have issues but i have heard of many babies born in the 37-38wk range w/ lung problems. so please everyone, just keep your traps shut til you hit 40wks.
What she said.
While I'm tired of being pregnant and uncomfortable, I'd love to be able to go to 39 or 40 weeks. I'm not throwing a party because I've been diagnosed with pre-e and could be induced any day now. Its actually quite stressful and I worry constantly.
Nope, I haven't seen those posts (don't go to 3rd tri) and I'm glad I haven't. Those posts would just make me mad.
