If you have a dining table....

Do you have a centerpiece at all?  If so, what?

We have a large rectangular dark wood (not sure of the type) dining table that will comfortably seat 6, yet it can seat 8 children.  We have a chair at each end with benches along the longer sides.  I currently have 6 navy blue place mats but feel the "center" could use something yet, I just don't know what and I'm looking for some ideas.

Re: If you have a dining table....

  • You could do some sort of seasonal theme for a centerpiece.  Right now, I have fake fall flowers in a vase as a centerpiece.  I know it's not fall yet, but I guess it's wishful thinking :).  I also have napkins in a pretty wood napkin holder in the center.

  • I always keep fresh flowers on my table. Sometimes they are large, some are small, but always fresh flowers. Nothing else.

Oh, and occasionally I will have a vase with candies that is for looks only.

  • I have a formal dining room with a large rectangular table that seats six. I have a crystal vase for the center and I change the flowers according to the season. I use fake flowers, but the ones I use for spring/summer are lilies and look real. For winter, I use greens, pinecones, and berries. For fall, I have some silk mums and sunflowers. I think they look fine. I'd prefer fresh, but I could never keep up with it.
  • I have a formal dining room. It has a lazy susan in the center with a pumpkin on it (ceramic that I made) and 2 candlesticks flanking it.

  • I have a red bowl with those yarn ball things in it (not sure what they are called, they are not actual yarn).  I also have a nice rectangular red placemat underneath the bowl.

  • We have a formal dining table that seats eight. I have a runner on it, with a pretty bowl in the center (keep seasonal items in it, pine cones or easter eggs or just potpourri) and it's flanked by a pair of hurricanes.
  • Large hurricane with a thick pillar candle in a coordinating color with the table settings

  • We just got a new dining room table and wall art...but no centerpiece - I have been trying to figure out what I want to do.  Thanks for posting this!!
  • I usually have DD make something. Currently, it's two glass containers filled with layers of colored salt and a glass vase that she filled with green stones and fish beads on a string. I change it up about every 2 weeks, and try to have it be seasonal.

No problem!  We use to have a small vase with a fake plant but it broke:(  Then we upgraded our table after DD#2 outgrew her high chair and now I'm at a loss.  I'm just not the decorating type!  I'm even lost on how to display school pics...DD#1 has been "top dog" for so many years, one 8x10 on the "display cool pics" side table in the living room did the job.  Now with DS starting kindergarten  I think we may need to designate a wall, I'm just not sure which one.....

  • I have a pretty colored bowl that I use for fruit.  We eat a lot of fruit, and I don't have room for it on my kitchen counters (well, I do, but I don't like that it looks cluttered there).

I'd put it on my kitchen table but it seems silly to move it for every meal.

Other times, I do large hurricane style jars filled w/ beads, shells, pinecones, Christmas ornaments or whatever then a large candle inside.  Something like this (but you can get them MUCH cheaper at the craft store) https://www.potterybarn.com/products/display-hurricane/?pkey=e%7Churrican%7C10%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C6&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

  • I like to keep flowers on the table, but it's usually just a bowl and some candles.
