3rd Trimester

Baby dropping and position

Can anyone describe to me what it feels like when the baby drops? I'm a first time mom so I'm clueless but my dr told me that she could drop in the next few weeks and to just note when it happens so they can check her position. It feels like I always have her feet up in my ribs and still very crowded feeling. Thanks!

Re: Baby dropping and position

  • Well as uncomfortable as it may be her feet in your ribs is a great sign that she is not breach! And you may not feel the exact second she moves down (then again you might) but you will notice at the least a difference in the way your "belly" presents it's self. For some the basket ball suddenly sits directly on top of their panty line, where before it was nearly touching their bra, for others like myself I suddenly looked nearly 5 or 6 weeks smaller again. It was like my belly deflated a few inches. And others who see you daily or regularly, may even comment on how baby has moved down. No worries even if you don't feel the moment happen, you will know!

  • For me, it was pretty gradual.  Then one day DH said, look at how much lower your belly is and i noticed that it was no longer up right under my boobs.  Also, when getting up from sitting now, there is much more pressure on my bladder and crotch.  Also, I don't get that full bloated feeling as easily as I did say 2 weeks ago.
  • Some babies don't drop until labor, FYI.

  • I just noticed a big change in how my belly looked.  It hung much lower and my upper body looked more similar to how it did pre-pregnancy.  That's when I started getting more comments that I looked like I only gained weight in the belly which is definitely untrue.  :)
  • I noticed that it was easier to breathe before I realized that LO had dropped. Now that he's been down there for a couple of weeks his little feet are finding their way under my ribs again. Also, the need to pee is near constant.

  • You can breathe again!
  • I was thinking it would be a huge difference, but it's really not. It's a pretty gradual thing, I honestly didn't even notice it happening until DH mentioned that he looked lower. Then I realized I could breathe a lot easier and just felt a bit more pressure on my bladder and lower abdomen. I think it just happened to me this week

  • Oh my gosh! Now I'm worried. DD was higher up so if she did drop I didn't notice. I had a c-section at 37 weeks and 1 day. By DS is SO low already. Major pressure down there and he's right on my bladder to the point where I can't even empty it it seems. =[ How much farther can he go?
