~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~

This is a list of women who are dealing with PCOS. Anyone can join in, so let me know if you want to be on this list! We can keep track of everyone?s cycle, offer advice, and support for each other. We check in every Tuesday and Thursday, and the check-ins can always be found in the PCOSbio.

Good luck and lots of sticky baby dust to everyone!

QOTD: What are your experiences with progesterone in any form? Provera, Prometrium, or cream.

Re: ~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~

  • I am Mandy.. I was Dx with PCOS in Nov 2003. We have been TTC since July 2005.

I have taken Provera (it makes me a hormonal crazy witch!) and I take Prometrium to induce periods when I don't get them. I was also on Prometrium (400mg daily) for 12 weeks during my pregnancy with Hunter.

  • Hi, I'm Shannon.  I was Dx w/ PCOS back in college, maybe 1996 but my determatolgist of all people.
  • QOTD: I've taken provera to bring on AF a few times, and about half the times AF was horribly painful...  I've also taken it after O during cycles, with no s/e that I can really think of.  However, I will be starting Endometrin (prog. supps) with our upcoming Inj. IUI cycle so we'll see how that goes.

  • I just started my first round on Clomid this week.  So far, no s/e.  I'm also now up to 1500 mg a day on Met, no s/e on that either.

QOTD: I've taken Prometrium to start my cycles off and on since March 08.  The first month I had a few days where I was horribly irritable, but no other s/e.

  • before PCOS was officially Dx'd last year, i had taken Provera a couple of times to induce a period.  it worked for me all time and i had minimal s/e - most fatigue.

i also use progesterone supplements during my last IUI cycle and while they helped to boost my progesterone for 7dpo b/w, the cycle ended in a BFN and i had to stop the supplements in order to start AF. i had no unusual s/e from this either.

  • I'm okay. Not having a great day but I'm alright.

I've taken Provera and had light s/e such as cramping and breast tenderness but nothing terrible.

  • Good morning all!

I've taken both prometrium and provera to induce AF. I prefer Provera. Prometrium caused me a lot of cramps and a much heavier flow. I also hate taking the prometrium for 12 days. I prefer taking Provera for 5 days but my RE likes me to take it for 7.

Things are ok with --- i went in today (CD21) for a progesterone check. I should know this afternoon if I ovulated!!

  • We've got our first RE appt on Thursday and i'm pretty anxious about it. i'm fairly certain we'll be trying clomid right away and i'm really hoping it works. the emotions are pretty complex - excited, nervous, scared, happy....hopefully it works on the first try :) but i'm bracing myself for it not working. it's just a very different feeling b/c i have not o'ed yet since we started trying in Feb, so to think that i could actually o and we could be pg very soon is a bit overwhelming.

i've taken prometrium to end a cycle once, no real side effects. i didn't get a full flow, though, just spotting.

  • I'm half done the 2ww!  If AF doesn't show, I'll be testing on Monday, which is also my birthday!  So I figure I can't possibly get AF or a BFN on my birthday because that wouldn't be fair, right?

QOTD: I've used provera multiple times to bring on AF.  The first time it took over two weeks for AF to show and it was a really heavy, painful flow. After that though, it's always taken only two days for AF to show and it's been fairly light and not painful at all.

  • QOTD: I've always taken progesterone in pill form and it's always worked to bring on my period *knock on wood* but I get really strong cramping with it and hot flashes.

I had a victory this month in that it's the first cycle that started on it's own in 3 1/2 years!!! I'm excited but trying not to get too carried away 'cause if I do and this cycle doesn't turn out well it's really hard to be positive and I don't want to be a holiday grinch!

Hope you're all doing well too : )

  • Hi Ladies! I'm doing good we go for our first appt tonight since I found out I had PCOS so we'll find out what we're going to do first in our journey.

I took Provera before I found out I had PCOS I took it for the ten days and I got AF 7 days later. That was in Aug my dr told me to wait and see if I get AF or not I didn't get it in Sept or Oct and then all of a sudden out of the blue I got her on Nov 3 so it was a nice surprise.

  • Hello there!

I've been a lurker for some time and an occasional poster. Everyone has been so helpful...thank you ladies!

TTC since Oct 2007, diagnosed with PCOS Jan 2008, did 3 rounds of clomid unmonitered with gyn, no luck. Started seeing RE in sept and found out there is a male infertility factor as well. So right now we're waiting for good old blue cross to approve out first IVF. So i think we're looking at late dec/early jan for IVF #1. It's exciting and terrifying all at the same time.

  • Hi! I'm Kristi. Thanks for the welcome:)  I tried Provera twice to bring on AF and both times didnt work for me.  I just finished Prometrium combined w/ an estrogen patch & it finally brought on AF.  The goal of our RE is to do injections but had to get AF first. and have to do HSG test on Thursday!

  • I have used Provera many times to bring on AF.   I tried Prometrium once and it didn't work, so I just use PRovera now.
  • QQTD:  I have never taken Provera so I am not any help.

I am just waiting to see how this cycle turns out.  I will be testing on Saturday if AF is a no show.

    Good Luck Ladies!

  • I doing well. I have doc appointment's tomorrow. Both my annual and my cycle check for the femera that I am doing. Not expecting too much, but who knows.

qotd: I normally take prometrium starting 7dpo or cd35 (whichever comes first) to keep from spotting. I average about 3 days after the last pill to start bleeding, but I have started early and also waited almost 2 weeks as well.

  • I was diagnosed with PCOS a little over a month. I took progesterone for 10 days and got my period a couple of days later. Since I don't want to start trying to have a baby until late summer I got back on the pill so that my periods would be normal and so that I wouldn't spot inbetween. When my gynecologist said I have PCOS thats basically all she said. I told her that I wantt to loose weight before I get pregnant.and she said it would be great idea. She never said anything about my insulin levels and all the others things I hear everyone talk about. Should I call her and ask more questions or should I just wait until I decide to stop taking the pill?  She said that it might not be so easy for me to conceive but that I didn't have much to worry about. Should I be worried? She never used the worlds clomid or fertility drugs.
  • We are holding off starting to TTC until further notice.  I have my pelvic ultrasound next week to confirm what I already know.  My first appt with the RE went well and I feel comfortable with her.  I am anxious to just finally get the official diagnosis and put on some meds.

In the mean time, there are babies, babies, everywhere around me.  Ugh.

I'm sprinkling baby dust to all of you!

  • Doing alright...yeah.
