  It's kind of matchy, but not obnoxiously so (not like, say "Levi" and "Eli" or something). If you love it I wouldn't let that stop you.

  I love the idea of Ethan and Eli. I think it's cute and not too matchy. Gavin is NMS at all.

  I love both names, and I don't think Ethan is too matchy with Eli. All 3 of the names were on our list for our DS

  This.  I loved the name Ethan for the longest time, but now that it is so popular and topping the charts - I will not use it, won't even consider using it... sad but I don't want my future son to be 1 of 5 Ethans in his class.

  I like Ethan better, but I would avoid it because I think it is a little too matchy. The "E" sound in both names is too strong for me.

  My vote definitely goes to Gavin. I like that name better, and then you won't feel pressured to use an E name if you have a third child. (Not that you would have to.)

  I am not a fan of either particularly but I think Gavin goes nicer with Eli, Eli & Ethan are too cutsey for me.

  The beginning long 'e' sound is just too strong in both of them for me. They are too matchy for my taste. Gavin gets my vote. Or if you're up for using Andrew as a first name, that would actually get my vote!
