We're going to a 1st birthday party next weekend, and we can't think of a good gift idea (we're first-time parents to an almost-4-month old).
Did you get anything for your DC's 1st birthday that you (or they) really liked?
They live in a small condo and have lots of toys already, and I'm sure will be getting more. Do you think it's tacky or lame to just give money for a collegeboundfund or the child's savings acct, or did you appreciate gifts like that?
TIA!
Re: Best gift you got for your DC's 1st Birthday
For DD's 1st Birthday we got lots of clothes which was really nice but I have to say that one of the best gifts that DD loves is her Winnie the Pooh play a sound book!https://www.amazon.com/Disney-Winnie-Pooh-Love-You/dp/1450807674 We got other toys like a wagon and bath toys and such but the book is one of my favorites!
oh and DD loves her fisher price musical chair: https://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=242341&e=detail&pcat=bulnl&pid=46412 she uses it everyday! She got it for Christmas but we only gave it to her around her Birthday since she was too young for it.
If you want to give money for savings then that would be fine too.

DD got, for her first birthday, a cabbage patch doll that she still plays with (she's now 6). DS, for his first birthday, got an outside ride toy which was great, but we have garage space to store it. When DD was his age, we lived in a condo w/out garage or storage space so it wouldn't have been as great!
I like receiving money for their college fund/savings acct, and don't find it tacky or lame. I'm practical like that!
We didn't get anything like that but I don't think that you can go wrong with investing for their future.
I love getting personallized items for LO's as it is something that will be sentimental and kept forever. I have purchased some nice and affordable items from

Hope this helps and GL!
I second the musical book. DD also loves playing with this. My parents gave money toward her college fund which we REALLY appreciate.
The most impractical things we received were clothes (she has TONS) and a car thing she can sit on and scoot around. We also have a condo and no space for that kind of toy.
Got this book and LOVE it. I will be getting this for all future 1 yr old parties I go to. It isn't a traditional baby book. It's filled out each birthday from 1 - 18, when the kids get older you ask them questions and record their responses. I think it's so neat.

I appreciated clothes, money for savings accounts and also DS loves these poke a dot books I bought him. He plays with them ALL the time. There is a Old McDonald one as well. He got several toys too but I'm thankful not too many, I don't want our house to turn into a toy store.

We got lots of cash gifts for LO's bank accounts. That is customary here. I also got lots of clothes and gift cards for kids clothing stores, which I really appreciated.
