I thought I knew exactly where I wanted to go - they even had my insurance listed on their website!
I called them they do NOT take my insurance?! So I would have to pay out of pocket - (H had an idea of some how trying to bill the insurance for an out of network provider ?! )
So I've called other places and no one can give me info on like a total cost for us? They say the insurance company should know - but wouldn't each place charge differently?!
And the places I've called also can't give me an answer on what DR I would see?! And it seems like I wouldn't have the same DR for the whole time - like it would be a musical babies situation?!
Is this how it really is?!
Re: How did you ladies find a DR?! Help!
Total cost will depend on your insurance.
Call your insurance company and get a list of doctors in the network. Go from there.
What you pay will be based on your deductible/co-payments.
Pregnancy Week by Week stuff.
I did a lot of research through my insurance company, doctor reviews, and vicinity to our home.
Ultimately I looked at who is covered under insurance and within 5 miles of home, then I would go on various doctor review sites and read up on who had the best/worst reviews. Plus I had a friend recommend this certain clinic.
I had to get my yearly exam done, so I tried the one that seemed the best out of all three factors and also did a prenatal interview. He was a great pick. When the bill came through for the exam my insurance covered everything.
I'm pretty happy with my decision at this point.

As with the PP you should be able to log onto your insurance provider's wedsite and find a doctor that way. What insurance provider do you have?
I go to a very large practice for everything and just went to the ob department when I found out I was pg. I will have the same doctor and nurse practitioner throughout my entire pregnancy but may see someone else if the doc isn't available.
I'd call your insurance company to find doctors that take your insurance.
GL!
Beech Street Corp.
Their website is outdated both in technology and info.
But I did go on there - and the list of providers in a 5 mi radious is lengthy!
I called everyone on the list who had a different address (different group)
They all gave me the same run around about the DR and don't do blood tests to confirm "b/c a +HPT is fine" and they don't schedule until after 8 wks. ?!
H has tried to call them (with no luck) - and is doing that over his lunch today.
I don't know anyone else w/ this insurance.
Not being seen until after 8 weeks isn't really uncommon.
Last time my doctor just did a pee test, so it was really no different than a HPT.
This time I don't know if they'll do a test or anything my first appointment is at almost 7 weeks because I wanted it scheduled around my husband's schedule so they moved it up, it would have been 8 or 9 weeks probably.

I agree with PP. You should call your insurance and ask them to send you an updated list. Also, you could actually ask them to give you names while on the phone so that way you can get your appointment scheduled a bit sooner rather than waiting for the list to be mailed.
My first
This is very common and the way most OB's will go about pregnancy if you have no knows issues.
Even at my 8 week appointment all I did was pee in a cup and they "confirmed" pregnancy with another pee test...
I knew with my DD that I was going to have another c-section, so I wasn't picky. I am actually bummed to go back to the same doctor just because I didn't like how things go in the recovery room at the hospital. But for the most part I feel like if the doctors/nurses/receptionist are kind...I'm fine with just about anywhere.

Well dang!
Reluctantly scheduled a DR apt on Sept 29!
I didn't like the lady on the phone - and I'll most likely get to play musical DRs - but here's hoping for a healthy baby anyhoo!
At least I have plenty of time incase I find a DR I like better! haha
Pregnancy Week by Week stuff.
I found my doctor by researching OBGYN's on healthgrades.com and vitals.com. I looked at where they went to school, how many years they have been practicing, how many C-sections they have done, if there were any malpractice suits and obviously reviews from actual patients. I booked an appointment with the doctor I chose for pre-conception planning and my yearly exam prior to getting pregnant so I could meet her and feel things out.
You will have you primary OBGYN but you need to keep in mind that there is likelihood your primary will not deliver your baby if she/he is off that day or not on call after hours. My doctor's office has you meet with all the doctors in the practice throughout your pregnancy so that you know each one in the event your primary OBGYN is not on call when you go into labor. That being said, when I called to make my first appointment when I found out I was pregnant they tried to put me with one of the other doctors and I just requested that I wanted to see MY doctor. I plan on meeting with the other doctors at least once but I want to make the majority of my appointments with my doctor...it's how I want it and that's how I'm going to tell them I want it done. Sometimes with medical receptionists you have to be a little bit more aggressive...you are in control of the care for you and your baby - not the receptionist.
As far as the total cost of your prenatal care, you will have to call your insurance because it just depends on your deductible and copayments as well as any fees they charge for hospitalization. Doctors have "deals" worked out with insurance companies...the insurance company only pays a pre-arranged amount with the doctor that accepts your insurance. Your insurance is just a better source of knowing the totals than the receptionists in a doctor's office.
Also, if you have a positive HPT and know when your last menstrual period is there is no reason to have a blood test. I'm assuming this is your first pregnancy and you have no previous complications like miscarriages, ectopic, etc. so the doctor seeing you at 8 weeks is totally normal.
I'm being seen by my OB the first time at 8 weeks 1 day ...I'm having a transvaginal ultrasound and blood work ( for blood typing, check levels, etc.).
I forgot one more thing...
I picked a hospital I wanted to deliver at and then worked backwards to see what doctors used that hospital. I was super picky about the hospital and wanted a facility that specialized in labor and delivery and had a neo-natal intensive care unit just in case something happened.
If you have many hospitals in your area , like I do, you might want to choose a hospital you feel comfortable with and then work back to find a doctor that uses that facility.
Like PP, I chose the hospital I wanted to deliver at and worked from there. I also took friend's advise and ended up at a practice that I just adore and works hand in hand with the hospital I wanted.
Good luck!
