When are you getting your flu shot?

Since it's almost fall, I was thinking of getting mine this weekend. Better to be safe! I have a friend who has the stomach flu already and I do NOT need that on top of everything else right now! When are you getting yours?

Re: When are you getting your flu shot?

  • Thank you for the reminder.  I'm calling the doctor right now.

  • They'll give them at work in the next few weeks and I'll get it then.

I worry that it will wear off in the dead of winter, so I'd rather wait a few weeks.  I know the CDC said it doesn't but after years of saying that it would and that's why you don't want to get it until October, it stuck in my brain.

  • I usually get it at work since I work in a hospital but I will speak to my OB's office since I am there tomorrow
  • I feel like an idiot....I didn't know it was safe during pregnancy. Yup. Brain is nothing but mush today. Thanks for the heads up. I think I'm going to do it sooner rather than later.

  • Can't ever get one. Severe egg allergy keeps me from getting one.

Don't feel like an idiot.  It is actually recommended in pregnancy because your baby will get some of the immunity but, after months and months and months of being told all the things we CAN'T have and what they WON'T give us, who would guess this one would be okay?  Unless you work in healthcare or someone specifically tells you, it's counter intuitive.

  • I've never had a flu shot in my life and I don't plan on getting one now.

  • I work for a med school, and our first batch should be arriving next week. I'm first on the list to get it. Our staff nurse is amazing and is watching out for me :)

Unless- like a pp- you have an allergy or some other medical reason for not getting a flu shot, everyone should get it. Babies under 6mo cannot get it, and so by YOU getting it, you are providing your baby with some immunity to the flu. It is not painful (and I'm terrified of needles), and you can get it almost anywhere (I think Target is currently offering it for $15). There is NO reason not to get it (again, unless you have a medical reason not to).

  • I'm going to wait until the beginning of October. I get an appt. with my DD so she doesn't feel so bad about being the only one to get a shot. DH will probably come along too.

  • Probably early October.  I'm actually amazed that it's available already.  When I had DS I wanted to get it mid-September so that I had it at least 4 weeks before he was born and had to call about every pharmacy in town to find one.

Mine is scheduled for a week and a half from now at work. Hooray for free flu shots!

You might double check that they'll do it.  My work won't do flu shots for pregnant people.

  • I usually get it in October, but I'll ask my OB when she thinks would be best when I see her tomorrow.

  • DD, DH and I are due to get it in October.  I get it done every year.  My coworkers get sick constantly and in our small office it spreads like the plague.

  • I'll get it as soon as possible. My work offers them but I have to wait for the one that is safe for pregnant women to get it. Just my opinion, but it seems downright silly not to get one if you don't have a medical reason not too, especially if you are pregnant. Why not get every little extra ounce of protection for your little one that you can!

Um people have all kinds of personal reasons for not getting flu shots including religious reasons. I find it insulting that you think the only reason people would not get them is because they are lazy and/or squeamish.  And I am sure that most people that choose not to get them feel that they are doing what is best for their baby just as you feel by getting it you are doing what is best for yours.
