DD is almost 6 months old, and getting close to 20 pounds. Especially now that she's teething, she wants to be held quite a bit. I have an Ergo that we use alot, both in front and on my back so I can get things done, but what other wraps, carriers, or slings work with a bigger baby? DD loves moving around, so something with her arms or legs in won't work for us. I also have a Moby wrap, but haven't used it since she was a few weeks old - the Ergo's been our go to since then.
Re: Wrap/Carrier/Sling for older baby?
I just ordered a Boba for our 12 month old. He is 22 pounds.
You've got 5 options to choose from. If you have specific questions about pros/cons of any of them, I'm sure that there are tons of folks here who can help. I prefer two shoulder carriers for longer wearing with bigger kids--woven wrap or mei tai.
Sling Guide
Choosing a Baby Carrier
For quick up and downs around the house when we are just doing chores and stuff I love my linen ring sling. Linen's great because it's a pretty sturdy fabric so it works really well for toddlers and also breathes well so it's good for outdoors or warm chores like cooking around the house.
Woven wraps are also fanatastic for longer periods when you are going to be holding them (say for example while you wash dishes, make dinner, or go for a walk to the park). They are nice since you can get them up high on your back so they can see over your shoulder unlike in a Ergo or Boba where they ride lower on your back. As the PP mentioned two shoulder carries are great for larger toddlers since it distributes their weight more evenly and for that you probably want a midsized wrap (probably a 5 or 6 depending on your size). Again Linen blends are a great bet with wovens and heavy toddlers, some other good options are things like indios and/or hemp blends. There is a ton of info and great people to help guide you on thebabywearer if you are interested. GL!
