Party Question (NBR)

My friend is hosting a jewelry party tonight. One of those where she is having a person who sells jewelry for a company come in and show off their stuff.  I told her I would go.  I really like this woman, and quite frankly, I would love the chance to get out of the house without the kids for a while! Stick out tongue

Anyways, this woman who is coming in to show off the jewelry sent me a catalog along with the invitation so I can look at it ahead of time.  The stuff is REALLY expensive (and not all that cute if I'm being honest)!! And not only that, but I'm not a big jewelry fan.  I wear my wedding rings and thats about it.  So I ask you, am I at an obligation to buy something? WWYD?

Thanks!

Re: Party Question (NBR)

  • I would probably buy something small.  Generally there is an expectation to purchase something at these kinds of parties.

  • You aren't obligated to buy anything but the more the guests spend, the more the hostess earns in free jewelry.  Can you tell I've been to a few of these?!?  If it's the jewelry I'm thinking of, then yes, it is waaay over priced.

I usually buy something small, like a pair of earrings or a bracelet.  If you aren't a big jewlery person, buy something small for someone who is -- the holidays are coming up fast!

  • I hate those parties with every inch of my soul.

If there is something affordable that you could gift to someone, do that but don't break your budget buying garbage just because you feel you have to.  (especially in this economy, people should understand that you're not going to throw good money on crap you won't use)
