s/o bday party timing

bday party at a local bounce house - party time is 1:30-3:30.  The normal drill is 1 hr 15 minutes of bouncing - 45 minutes in party room.

1. would you expect to be fed an actual meal (at 2:45)?  Or is cake and ice cream ok?

2. do you think it looks "cheap" to not serve lunch?   admittedly I AM trying to cut costs b/c I feel like these bday parties add up so fast.  If I can save $100 on pizza (by having it at this time, which I guess is partially dependent on people's answers to question #1), I will!

  • I think it is 100% acceptable to do cake an ice cream at that time.

  • 1. No.

    2. No.

DS1 is having a bounce house party also.  However the only time I could get was 4:30pm = 545pm for the party, so we will be having pizza.  If I could have gotten an earlier time, I wouldn't be serving pizza and wouldn't have a second thought.

  • I think cake and ice cream are fine. We had DD's party at Gymboree last year from 2:30-4 and I wasn't sure what to do about the food either. We ended up just doing cake, and I don't think anyone cared.

  • I agree with the others. We recently went to 2 parties that served pizza at 3pm, and I would have preferred there be no pizza.  It wasn't necessary and screwed a bit with their dinner time. We did DS' party at a bounce house from 1-2:30, put on the invite that cake and ice cream would be served.  I also brought some chips/pretzels for the kids and parents, and drinks for everyone, so there was some munchy stuff.
  • we just had ds party at a bounce house and did not serve a meal. only had cake and ice cream

  • Cake and ice cream is fine for your situation.  I always make a small note on the bottom of the invites that says either dinner will be served or cake and ice cream.
  • Cake and ice cream is totally fine and I would not expect lunch at that time.  I had my DD's b-day party at a bounce place this summer on a Sat morning, party ended at 11:30 and we only had cake and it was just fine - everyone was very happy.  I think having a meal at a kids party is totally not necessary.
